Public Sector Strike

There's been nothing much to complain about with Rovers this season so thought I'd have a moan about this. Sure it'll be good for an argument as proportionally I'm about to slag off a fifth of the working population (and that fifth can spend all day on here today).

2 reasons the strike winds me up no end:

1. Going into the details would be a bit complicated but in 95% of cases public sector pensions are way, way better than a private sector one for someone on an equivalent salary. The private sector creates wealth, the public sector absorbs it, so why should we spend our working life funding someone elses cushy retirement while in many cases we'll end up struggling to pay heating bills etc?

2. The government (and therefore every person in this country) has a huge debt, we simply cannot afford to continue paying the current pensions. People are being laid off in the private sector right, left and centre. Companies have gone under by the thousands since the recession started, and to be honest its either plain selfish or totally deluded to moan about slight reductions to unreasonably good pensions amidst all this.

There is no decent reason for this strike and it should be being met with widescale outrage. The reason it isn't is because the public sector is far bigger than it should be and about half the people in the country now have someone in their family who works in it and therefore have a vested interest. And maybe its also because most private sector workers don't have time to be ringing up radio stations, standing around waving placards all day and going on marches. We're too busy working (EDIT: and to prevent further jibes about that closing remark, this took about 2 minutes to type, and I didn't say working hard, just working, for peanuts, without moaning about it).

Your arrogance really sickens me McVenkys. I've worked in finance all my life and help relatives with their decisions about whether to enter their pension schemes (public and private) or not. You've read an article on the bbc website, pick one quote out which is immediately qualified with further evidence in the very same article, quote that at me and then accuse me of being thick on the matter. Thats it now idiot, I'll continue this argument with people of more intelligence.

I've worked in both the private and the public sector, and was paid a much higher salery in the public. Just thought I'd throw my experience in.

But as stated RFIK.... KEAN OUT!!!

You just come back with parochialistic insular reasons so you have no grasp of the wider issues. I have two friends who worked in similar jobs to yours. They dont complain about their "private" pensions.

It depends what you do in the public sector as well. Specialist skills will always be paid more and people who work unsocial hours or work in the emergency services for instance. I know private sector workers do work unsocial hours as well. There is always the possibility of changing roles for all, if you don't like either the public sector or private, then change.

KEAN OUT (still)

I worked for both the private and public sector prison service, and in that case the public sector is better paid, and by a large margin. But there are pro's and con's to both sides. I currently can't afford to pay into a pension plan, and therefore feel those with a pension of any size should look at the wider picture. These are hard times for everyone thanks to the previous govt and the banks. Let's not turn on each other on this issue, as emotive as it is.

KEAN OUT !! (still )

Indeed. Probably wasn't a wise idea for me to start it. Just bugged me listening to the radio on the way to work hearing strikers going on about everyone being behind them as if it was some noble cause.

Aaaaanyway, you put you Steve Kean in, take your Steve Kean out, in out in out, you shake him all about, you throw him in the atlantic and you win a game, thats what its all about!

Touchy subject. I have said my piece. Chill B&WH, some of the personal stuff written on here to you is unnecessary....
