Liverpool.

Functioning, but just a little bit out of sinc. We know we are close, we have one of the best functioning defences in the league, we have good midfield options, but; our attack is quite frankly awful!!

I dont believe it needs much actually, people may disagree but sometimes it just requires a catalyst....a person who make "things" happen, look at Ba for Newcastle or Zamora for Fulham the last couple of yrs. Not the most expensive but crucial. Attack wise, someone who has pace, guile and skill....but most imortantly can put the ball in the back of the net, who knows maybe a new striker will bring the best out of Carroll and Hendo.

Its not all lost, we are hard to beat and perform well against the top teams....now if we can just get the "right" striker as opposed to the most expensive!

you miss the point BUBBLY!
------------------------------------------
If we has a catalyst or right type of striker, then all those chances we create could well of been finished off....its not inconcievable that a RVP type for Liverpool would mean the difference between drawing and beating teams, and that could of been an extra 8 points( and thats being conservative).

8 points more means competihg for teh title....as i said, we are close...very close!

hey pool people... here is a post of a comment on another meesage board. from a liverpool fan too... half wumming here but decent points too, enjoy.

"Too true. Dalglish's worst signing -at least Carroll has not had as extensive run in the side.

I'm almost sanguine about Suarez' ban. He needs some kind of break to recharge his batteries. No end product at the moment, though unlike the Carrolls and Torres' of this world he at least gives you lots of invention and threat. But he needs a break.
Only Maxi (a class above the rest of our midfield) seemed on his wavelength, but I always knew the Argentinian would be removed as the game went into its climax- notice how Suarez went out of the game then too, as Downing and Gerrard started playing pinball percentage football.
Henderson was a technique-less carthorse today. Adam. Jesus, but for his left foot he'd barely be championship standard. His off the ball skillset is nonexistent.

I hate picking on 'overrated english b-players' but that's exactly what we've bought. In the summer we needed to buy superior versions of Spearing, maxi, Kuyt and mereiles. Instead we bought the geordie Kenwyne Jones(Andy), the poor man's/rich fool's Adam Johnson(Downing) a club footed Tom Cleverley(Henderson) and the scottish Andy Reid.

On our midfield - Last year Lucas and Spearing were nominally our DMs but they tackled/pressed the opposition high up the pitch, either just inside our half or in theirs. It meant we won possession/could initiate attacks much closer to the opposition box and so the relative lack of pace of Maxi/Kuyt/Mereiles and Suarez did not matter. Those four could use their interplay to swarm the oppositions box before their defenders could organise themselves into lines or banks. We scored a lot of goals this way.

Adam and Henderson don;t close down -they drop back and back until they are almost on top of our centre halfs, so the opposition carry the ball much nearer to our penalty box. Our defence usually sorts things out quick enough but we then struggle to counter. Adam and Henderson are stuck on our 30 yard line so we have to lump balls to Suarez or funnel things out to Downing, who is lamentable when it comes to being decisive."

Of course they are close!

Liverpool need another striker who can score goals. They would have beaten: Norwich, Swansea and Blackburn at home if they had this. They have the joint best defensive record in the league and seem to do well in the big games: Chelsea, Arsenal and draws against Man Utd and Man City.

He said defensively: Liverpool have the joint best defensive record in the "Premier League" and therefore he is correct.

Not trying to wum here, but if all you need is a good striker, why are you guys complaining so much about Adam, Henderson and Downing all of whom are midfielders.

I think Liverpool have a decent team but from an outsider perspective it seems your problems run deeper than getting a good striker.

We are also close. If we had another striker and had scored more goals in games we'd lost in the games we hadn't won we'd be top of the league
