Leeds game on SKY

As above really, the Leeds game has been chosen for SKY and will now kick off at 5.20 pm. Thought this game would get picked, should be a good game, good crowd, and maybe banish our 12 year hoodoo ?

Dunno that 1pm is much better than 3 really....those Pompey fans will still be tanked up by then! Perhaps we should start a trend and play all Pompey ties at 9am

Liking that

Crikey...that suggests we've only shared division for like 15(?) seasons (cup ties probably accounting for the rest)

What happened in the last 2 games then?

I think the last time we played we were two divisions below you and yet dominated the first 70 mins.... What happened the 19 times we beat you?

This is an interesting point. Unlike many 'rivalries' where the teams either meet a million times a year (Glasgow) or have so many 'rivals' none of them really mean anything much (Manchester United, Liverpool, some of the West Midlands clubs) we not only have only each other to hate - Bournemouth and Brighton jog on - but we tend to meet rarely and under interesting circumstances.

One of us is usually doing pretty well when we meet and the other is not.

We've also gone from Saints having the dilapidated small stadium fighting for their life year-in-year-out in the top flight, to Saints having the big shiny new ground and at the same time falling from FA Cup final into League One. Pompey meanwhile have had their own finals, taste of Europe, administration and relegation.

In answer to your question, since we both joined the FL 1920, we have been in the same division for just 16 out of 85 seasons (none were played during WWII). Out of the remaining seasons, Pompey were in a higher league for 32, Saints for 37 (most of them the latter part of the 20th century whereas Pompey's were earlier).

And only once have the teams been separated by 3 divisions - 1978-1980 when Pompey were down in the dumps of the fourth division

I think the fact we are both 'unfashionable' clubs as well as clubs with changing fortunes, means we have one of the most heated rivalries in the country.

I certainly get heated when I hear they've urinated on our seats!

But an interesting read, Eastleigh Saint

Hope you don't mind us making a lot of noise

Thats a nice easy 3 points for Leeds to start the new season with then

Last time we played Leeds was a great match. Not only because we completely outplayed the then-second-placed side and bagged the three points, but because the atmosphere was electric.
