Paul Green Yes/No

I am beginning to think that the Derby performances of late, are in no small measure to the return from injury of Paul Green.
He seem to be very much involved today, saturday, and against Leeds.
Does anyone feel like myself, that he shoul be given a contract.

We will bring in an experienced head on loan. Or a PL prospect.

Hendrick is the future. Until we get a bid for him....

I was hoping to see Hendrick, Green and O'brien in the eire squad at the euro's ...even Deeney...but then I thought I'm just being daft.

There's only 1 person, probably in the world unfortunately, who rates Green as a £2 million midfielder.

It'll probably cost near on £2m for a like for like replacement...established international...I rate him higher than Commons and Hulse (4M bid was recieved for him...how I don't know) when they were both at Derby...

If Green had not been injured, he would have been signed up by now.

Problem is that we needed to replace him for the start of the season.

Good point Ramdom...I think if he hadn't been injured at Cardiff last season he would f been sold in the summer...

ambergriff,

I was thinking that part of the stand-off between the club & player may also be due to the fact that GSE have renewed contracts of players who performed well for a period, only to lose form/fall out of favour (Leacock, Bywater, & Pearson). Prior to his injury, Paul Green was actually struggling to make an impact.

Also I think Clough does look ahead and anticipate things like the possible loss of players and how to/who could replace them.

Hindsight is wonderful because I remember most of us panicking when Hulse was set for his £4m move though news filtered through that Clough had Vokes lined up (loan deal). I was undecided about Hulse moving but thought £4m could've rebuilt our team. In the end, to our relief, he stayed but his form declined.

I am sure if Green goes, Clough will have considered other options.

The problem is earnings from even last year are way too high for the future. And Green came on a free so he would get a good uplift of the then wage Jewell offered for that fact alone.

Now we are talking next year's money when all clubs will have to operate on reduced revenues. Crowds are going to be well down for all clubs.

Let's hope Green's agent sees sense and finds a compromise which will not upset the current team spirit which is why we are doing well. Green, much as I want us to keep him, must not be allowed to cause an upset within the team.

A lot of clubs will start doing this. big contracts at Derby are a thing of the past, if we can't meet his wage demands, then I wish Green all the best, I can not see us breaking the wage structure for any player under GSE.

Problem is that we don't have any details with regard to the offer being put to Paul Green, Paul Green must make the decision himself on the offer although I would much prefer him to remain with Derby. Lets hope PG makes the right decision.
