city will be without the toures, but still their midfield will be a lot stronger than ours.
i'd go for a line-up like this:
--------------------lindegaard----------------------
rafael------ferdinand-----smalling--------evra
-------------carrick---------jones------------------
valencia-----------rooney-------------------nani
--------------------welbeck-------------------------
this line-up is the only chance to survive the game.
also we should stick with that line-up until we have our full squad back.
but as we all know, it's just not going to happen like that.
The City Game....

No, the Ivory Coast have rejected the request.
That's Toure and Barry they'll be missing on Sunday. Both will be missed but they have the squad to cope. They've got De Jong and I'm sure Milner will probably in midfield as well.
I agree with the OP's line up but I've got a feeling the manager might play 5 in midfield.

Rooney almost counts as a midfielder he drops that deep.
If we play 4-5-1 then we will struggle because whoever plays up top alone will struggle against Kompany n Lescott.
We need to sit back, contain and hit them on the counter. That is where they have been caught out this season against Bayern, Napoli, Chelsea n Sunderland.
If we play "we attack, you attack" football It might get embarrassing again for us.

i think City will line-up like this;

Aguero Balotelli

It would be great to knock city out in the 3rd round, the holders go out in first hurdle.
Playing against limited ability players like barryy and milner carrick will give them the run around

With the state of the midfield I think United needs to play a DM to sit in front of and protect the defense otherwise I can't see us winning.

Sorry to disappoint Hafi but Barry is suspended.
De Jong, Nasri, Milner, Johnson and Silva will be available for said Carrick run around.

Also what Fergie would give to have "limited ability" players in Barry and Milner at this moment in time.

no Balotelli has not trained for 5 days due to an ankle injury.

if barry was so good or milner surely aston villa would have finished in the top 4 or man city when tottenham beat you comfortably to it. Lets be honest city onmly have 1 good midfielder in yaya toure and he won't be playing.
