Paul Green to Ipswich??

PEEDER.
It's not that Ipswich can afford his wages. It's more that they have no team spirit to destroy as paying Paul Green more than our salary structure can bear.
I admire Paul and hope he stays at Derby and is a regular in the side. Such a role, with Derby coming in for a fine finish (play-offs??) ,will do his international prospects a lot of good. I hope he stays.

Webbo, nobody is overpaid if there's someone daft enough to give them that money. You may not think they're value for it but these things happen in sport, you pays your money and all that.....
I hate comments about sportsmen's salaries and how they should accept less money just because their club is struggling. You said yourself you'd snap someone's hand off for the cash so why should footballers be different. If you'd been handed a contract at 19 then broke your leg at 20 you'd be in trouble shortly afterwards. Most players can expect their wages to drop off after they're 30 or so leaving them another 50+ years of retirement. I suppose they should get themselves a proper job after that eh?

Lloyd that's precisely the point, why should they expect to have a cushy life just because they've played football. They have so much spare time on their hands they could learn new skills at the same time, I know a fair few footballers who have done degrees whilst being a pro footballer!
The problem is the majority have massive egos that need massaging.

Ignoring the job for a second. Imagine you were paid a lot of money and your boss said "the company are struggling, I want you to cut your salary by 25%". You know that the company a town over will give you the same salary you're on, what would you do?
If they're smart they can learn new things but that's a different issue. I'm not saying they're not very lucky and I wouldn't swap in a second or that they don't have huge egos. Just that they shouldn't be expected to cut their salary just because they get paid more than most.
People say, for instance, they're on £10k a week, they could take £8k/wk and still be on over £400k. This ignores the fact that they'd be giving up over £100k a year which when your career is only 10/15 years and you only earn the peak amount for a portion of that is a massive hit.

Absolute tripe!! I see no reason why Green shouldnt be paid the same as Barker and Shackel
It wouldnt surprise me if he was offered the somthing ridiculus so Derby County could then turned round to the fans and say "well we offered him a contract" He will no doubt turn up and some other championship club with more ambition next season than us............................Someone like Doncaster

Bush -
Absolutely! Green should be paid the same as Barker and Shackell - he is every bit as influential as them and of a similar seniority.

I agree with part of what you say there Bush but we believe Green to be on the same as Barker and Shackle combined, so he should take a pay cut or we offer him the same terms and Barker and Shackle double their current terms, oh and Jamie Ward too and then the gap between Ward and Robinson will be too great so we will have to up Robinsons to and then Bryson, Brayford and on and on it goes. We will then be paying twice as much for the same team.

Just out of interest, does anyone actually know the supposed salary ceiling we have at the club? I have knowledge of the maximum that 2 of the local clubs down here will pay (around £5k for League 2 players!) so guess we're at around the £10/15k mark that has been mentioned.

Bush:
Were you referring to your own post as 'absolute tripe'?
How do you know that Green hasn't been offered the same as Barker and Shackell? For that matter, how do you know that Barker and Shackell are on the same salary?
One is Club Captain, the other one isn't.
