I think you are a bit naive to the drinking culture in 1980's football.

It is beyond belief for the club to advertise the fact, because of the media storm it would cause, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

You are also assuming that Carroll was drinking.

Maybe he was just out? Maybe he had one pint and drove home?

I just don't see the point of castigating a player, when even if he was out in the city, we don't know if he had permission, we don't know how many drinks he had (if any).

So many variables.

The media 'know' he was completely sloshed because he went out and therefore the sheep know. Just wait and see. If Carroll does play tonight and doesn't score.

Maybe a few pints inside him will sort his head out? He certainly doesn't look happy at Lfc does he?
As punishment goes I would play him for the full game and make him sweat it out, then fine him, if it is true of course!!!
