A winger's primary stats should be for assists since their job is crossing the ball into the box. So what are they for Walcott and Johnson?

And Capello often plays 4-4-2 so it matters.

Both have good records over Lennon. But Capello still picks Lennon.. it would be worse if Harry takes his seat.

If England want to continue as they are focusing on power and pace then Walcott.If they want to try and change the style of play using technical players that are more skilful then Johnson

Not sure how much weight you can put on those stats; they don't tell you who the goals were against, for example, or whether they were match winners. Furthermore, a winger should be more concerned about assists. So those stats don't really say that Johnson is better than Lennon.

Instead, if you want to fight Johnson's corner than go on observations instead. You only need to watch either player for half and hour to see that Johnson is a far better player. Lennon is all legs and no brain. If he can't beat a man with pace then he can't beat him at all. Johnson has far more in his locker.

As for Walcott; well, the less said about him as a winger, the better. I think he'd make an effective striker, as he'd be in positions where he'd have less time to think about what he has to do. Play him on the shoulder of the last defender, give him two touches max to tuck the ball away and he'll be great. Put him on the wing where he has to think about how he's going to beat a man, how he's going to control a ball and where he's going to play it, and he'll disappoint.
