In his first spell at the club Julian made 159 appearances before moving on to Gillingham in 2008. He made 73 appearances for Gillingham including the spicy encounter at Broadhall Way last season.
During that game all the ex. Stevenage players got a lot of stick (which is something I try not get involved with) so I hope he gets a better reception when he returns. He certainly had an excellent game that day, keeping Gillingham in the game with a string of fine saves. He will be excellent back-up to Day and push him to stay at the top of his game as first team keeper.
Interestingly on the club website Graham Westley is quoted as saying: "t is disappointing to lose a great character like Bayso, but his priority is still on playing games and I cannot promise him that," Graham Westley said. "He has been a huge contributor at Stevenage and everybody will follow his progress with a warm heart.
"Alan, however, sees the opportunity in the long term and we all know how much quality he will bring into the squad. He is a different type of character but another man that you would happily go into the trenches with."
This conflicts with the information previously released suggesting Bayso left to pursue coaching. Either way I agree with GW that as a character he will be missed around the Boro team and would add that I'd welcome him back as a coach in the future.
The second paragraph is interesting, underlining the Julian is brought in as a squad member, back-up to Day. At 28 Julian is 7 years younger than Day, and has a good 10 years left in his playing career so he is a good long term signing for Stevenage.
