Hi all,
Does anyone think we should make a move for Jan Verthongen? For me it seems like a move which makes sense. He is primarily a centre back, but can play at left back or defensive midfield comfortably. At the start of the season people were saying we needed a new centre back, which isn't the case anymore. However, with the injury to Lucas, we desperately need a new defensive midfielder. Vertonghen could fill that role for the rest of the season, and could become a third centre back when we want to push Johnson and Enrique forward.
To me he seems to be a more versatile version of Agger, and for the apparent price of £10 million would be a great buy, not to mention the fact that he worked with Suarez at Ajax. Plus he's still only 24.
What do you all think, would he be a good option?

We won't know till we try and he's the sort of player we should be looking to get! I'd also love to see us get Granero from Real Madrid, he'd be perfect behind Suarez or any new striker we get and I think a loan with a veiw to a permanent move in the summer would be great for us!

I suppose, and would love us just to make a move, would represent real intent. I also like your idea about Granero, very gifted player who is very versatile. An initial loan would be a very god bit of business

A very talented player who hasn't made one appearance this season for Real Madrid!

yeah it's such a shame. Should be willing to come to us but match fitess may be an issue

He would surely have been in full training and can't see it taking to long, look at Stevie. Only took him a few half hour slots to get back and he was coming off 2 big injurys! I'd look at it more like he was well rested and ready to go and he would add so much creativity to the team!

I agree with you there, we definitely need the creativity. Him and Gerrard could put the ball on a pound coin for Carroll

They could put it on a pound coin but I feel Carroll would be to busy chasing the pound coin and getting no where near it! The thing about getting a creative player like Granero, is that you need the players to put it away and it's looking more and more likely that it's not going to be big Andy!

I think that Carroll will start putting them away shortly, but he's feeding on scraps at the minute. Hopefully Suarez returning will help him out, just to take the burden off him more than anything

Granero, Sinclair and Sow would be the perfect january for me

Still think I'd rather have Luuk De Jong over sow! Don't like the fact that they just up and leave for 6 weeks in jan!
