Now this is by no means confirmed, i don't confess to having certain inside knowledge (or bo l l ocks, however you view it) like some on here but....
According to Duncan Castles twitter (reputable journo for the Times, who is accurate in what he says more times than not)....... Howson asked for 25k p/w wages.
Now, IF this is true, it sounds like Howson or his agent was forcing the club's hand. There is no way in hell that Bates would pay 25k as wages, whoever the player is.

Howson's wages' request

GO, it's not that. But should clubs be paying more in wages than they can afford. Are Ant and Dec making ITV or whoever pays them go into the red?

Everybody
I agree. Wages in the second division should not be as high as they are! But the "potential" situation we find ourselves in is that we will not be able to compete in wages with other champ clubs.
Eric you are right, its speculation.

Unfortunately Cas, right now to succeed,
you have to throw at least some cash at it.
Waiting for debt-free football nirvana will
be a very long wait.

lufc, but I think SG has had money to throw at it. It's what he's throwing it at that's some of the problem. If he didn't collect players like stamps (29 pros) and actually got say decent players then they could all have decent money.

Can't argue with you there Cas. Grayson's
knack of not identifying the right player for
the price is shocking.

If this is true, then don't you think the club would have said it rather than make out its due to the fact we're not going to the prem.
Load of rubbish.

disagree jonty, the club doesn't like talking money, i can't remember the last time the club mentioned a figure in regards to transfer fee, everything is 'undisclosed fee'.

That's because they let our best players go cheaply and sign our worst ones for decent fees.
Anyway, Bates was pretty candid about the Gradel fee.

1 o you're missing the point were not talking about the fee were talking about how son supposedly asking foR more money. If that were true bates would be the first shouting about as he has done before but they have said its due to length of contract and prem ambitions.

Have to go agree with Jonty on this one.
