The cyclical Jose series that features persistently - some would say more frequently than perennially and more often than periodically in the periodicals - has appeared again.
Following a training ground bust-up, it's reported today that he "will quit Real Madrid in June".
Which "June" is open for debate, such is the nature of the Mourinho media merry-go-round.
What we do know is that he has stated, on record, that his next job will back in the English Premier League.
My question, therefore, is:
Would you like him to be our next manager?
He's been courted in the past but now we've got some genuine financial muscle would we be on Mourinho's radar sufficiently for him consider us potential employers?
Would the American owners want him? They want to win, like winners and Mourinho, despite his tendency for controversy, is categorically and unquestionably, a winner.
Let's face it, considering the way the club has lurched from one difficult situation to another recently, even Mourinho's abrasive approach probably couldn't make things any worse. But there is always that downside. But how 'down' can we be in the 'general perception' stakes?
But if the current owners are serious about restoring the club to pre-eminence they'd be mad not to consider a manager who is more than up to the job. As his record proves and is beyond debate.
Could he be the man to succeed Kenny? The foundations will have been laid by then.
Or could Jose replace Wenger at Arsenal? Another big challenge for the 'Special One'. I think a move to the Emirates could really happen.
However, I'd like to think we'd be in with a shout of securing his services.
If he really will be leaving Real in June!!!
Or could this precipitate a merciful retirement down the road and see him turn to the 'dark side'? I hope not. I'd like to believe Mourinho will realise that, ultimately - even for him - what a poisoned challice that would be....
As an aside, my tip for a future Liverpool manager is Paul Lambert. Just my opinion.....

I think that Guardiola is nailed on as the next Arsenal manager

To be honest i think this is preposterous. He'll never go to Arsenal.

Personally if Kenny decides he's had enough at the end of the season, Mourinho is the one I would love to see replace him. Theres a reason why I believe Liverpool and Mourinho would be a match made in heaven...Arrogance is what builds empires. Bill Shankly was arrogant, Alex Ferguson is arrogant...Jose Mourinho is arrogant. Thats why he's not suited to Manchester United. Arrogance is not whats needed to sustain success, whats needed is the complete opposite. Thats why Liverpool became an even better team under Bob Paisley because Bob was the complete opposite to Shanks. Shanks was a showman, an enthusiast, and media friendly. Bob was humble and quiet, and hated the media, but he was a tactical genius. Bob Paisley used to tell his players to watch out for things he saw the opposition players continually do and 10/10 times he was right. He was the first self taught physiotherapist.
He taught himself by visiting hospitals and learning about every injury a footballer could get.
He was such a keen student, he went to Ray Kennedys school and found out that he once played wide left, and converted him from a luumbering centre forward who had lost a yard of pace and turned him into a energetic and intelligent wideman. And Ray Kennedy was bright. Roy Evans once said that during team-talks he always knew Ray Kennedy was listening and he used to use on the pitch things he picked up during team-talks.

MagicEnrique - nice post. What stands out to me from everything you mentioned is - Shankly, Paisley, Evans all loved the club, the fans knew that, the players knew that. There was a sense of 'oneness' - something Kenny is instilling now. Mourinho goes against all of that. He's in it for himself! He's about success at any price and alienating as many as possible along the way fans, players, owners etc. So for me, he isn't the man I want at my club.

Johnsonsbaby.
Nice post.
But lets not forget in the beginning Shanks was an outsider. However like Mourinho and Ferguson, he had a unquenchable thirst to be the best, and thats where the overall arrogance came from. Neither Shanks or Ferguson had any love for their respective clubs when they were appointed, that happened later.
I reckon Mourinho would see Liverpool as a ''project'' that his ''baby'' and Liverpool would grow to love him,and he would grow to love them. He's already claimed that he loves the Anfield atmosphere.

MagicEnrique - When Rafa came he made it his business to read up about Liverpool FC in general and Shankly in particular. Most came to admire not only his football knowledge, tactics etc. but him as a man - especially after the generous donations to local charities including Hillsborough, that he made as a parting gesture. That admiration as a person aside from football, he shared with Shankly and Paisley. In my view Mourinho would never get that. He's a lightening rod for contoversy and we don't need that!

Its exactly what we need...In order to empire build,we need a hurricane, and thats what Mourinho is. Theres been two much messing around, we need someone to give the club and the players a massive kick up the backside and go out to destroy Manchester United.

Hurricanes destroy - we'll just have to disagree on this one

Hurricanes destroy....when the hurricane is a person,Bill Shankly was a hurricane, it doesn't destroy the club he works for....he destroys the enemy. The enemy recieves no mercy and in this case the enemy is Manchester United.
