Future of Scottish Football in the balance.

Obviously, I am a Celtic supporter. Let me say from the outset that I would dearly miss the OF games, the oldest and most intense rivalry on the planet, if the worst was to happen to rangers, but like most Celtic fans I wouldnt mind them playing for a decade or so with their hands tied behind their backs and tied to the corner post in the boxing ring, as we were to a certain extent when we couldnt compete with their spending.
How ironic that when Murray said we will spend £10 for every £5 Celtic spend, he omitted to mention that the extra fiver would come from the taxpayer .

My point, if rangers no longer existed, it would be calamatous for Scottish Football, no matter what any Celtic fan may claim or think. How many of us would continue to be intersted after 5 seasons or so with games against Well and Caley Thistle? How often would we, without the Sky money be able tgo qualify for the CL?

Rangers football club will always exist.

Whether we're any good or not is another story.

If they go bust they will just come back with another name ,like Airdrie. Will have to start in the bottom division though. I think thats fair.If they have to pay 40 million odd in tax then they cheated by spending money that they would otherwise not have had. That amount of money would have helped them no end. I also think it's karma for everything appalling that rangers have stood for over the years. I don't want them to disappear but a few yrs in the brown stuff would be very welcome.

If Scottish football becomes a 1-horse competition you are all finished as a competitive product..

...its bad enough as it is just now. Your TV deal will disappear

Could always team up with the Welsh League

A single CL game is worth as much as what we get from the tv deal each year for domestic fitba.
It wont be five years either as even if things are allowed to run thier natural course without any shenanigans to fastrack Rangers back into the SPL it would be a max of three years till they were an SPL side again.
Even if Rangers have to start in the 3rd div I cant see them not being promoted year on year. Could be even less as without pulling a flanker there is not a means in place at present for Rangers to be automaticaly enter even the 3rd division. Other phoenix clubs in the past have bought a club currently holding a registration and relocated and changed the name. So it would not be suprising to see Rangers resurface as high as the 1st division.

As a Celtic fan I hope, and fully expect, Rangers to survive. I will of-course enjoy watching them struggle for a few seasons, but ultimately - Scottish football as a whole need the dark side.
