If i had to choose, then it would be the ashes. The whole build-up,atmosphere,tradition,etc adds up to make a very good series. The stadium is full, whole countries are behind their team.
Eng-ind is a very good series too, but the whole nation doesnt get behind the team as they do in ashes.for indians, india-australia is bigger than india-england because they england havent posed any challenge to the indians.and majority indian cricket fans view english cricketers as a very soft, unthreatening, schoolboys.
Indians take australia ,southafrica and pakistan seriously.
But now, since england are in winning form, indians may take english as challenging force and the trp may increase in india.

The trp in england for india series is nowhere near to to that for the ashes.
Nevertheless. There is no doubting. That this series is gonna be a hell of a cracker.

Normaly the ashes but this series should be a good one. India are the number one side but we are at home and are arguably the second best side in the world.

I would be disappointed if this England-India series did not produce cricket of a significantly higher quality than the ashes.

Having said that, it still will not match the ashes in terms of appeal - tradition, atmosphere, fanatical fan following. Just as to an Indian fan, it won't match the appeal of an India-Pakistan series.

Ashes! However it should beta cracking series. Why is Tendulkar at Wimbledon? Why isn't he in the windies?

50 years ago West Indies and Australia faced off in a pivotal series that included the world's first tie in Tests and rejuvenated Tests and cricket as a whole.

I don't know which of the teams was the best and 2nd best before the series started, but the series was mighty close:
First Test- Tie
2nd Test- Aus won by 7 wickets
3rd Test- WI won by 222 runs
4th Test- Drawn (Aus were 9 wickets down)
5th Test- Aus won by 2 wickets (by the slightest of margins)

In the end, it was a series worthy of being considered one of the all-time best
Only two series can actually stand up to it in terms of galaxy of stars and quality of performance and strength of following:
2001 Ind-Aus
2005 Eng-Aus

West Indies earned so much respect that they were given a ticker-tape parade by the Aussie fans (I know the idea seems ridiculous now, considering how partisan fans have become, especially the Aus fans) when they left even though they had lost the series.

Right now, the Tests format needs a fillip and I believe this series between England and India would be something close to that- a series for the ages.

The galaxy of stars are all there, and hopefully the quality of cricket will be high as well considering most of the stars are saving themselves for this series.

Right now, no series would be greater than Eng-Ind, apart from Ind-SA.
Eng-Aus or even Ind-Pak won't even come close to the above two, and may not for some time to come.

India's defeat of WIndies at the fabled Sabina Park bodes well for the summer clash of the titans.
Sri Lanka were swept aside by England, so the India series looks to be a true test for either team.
I believe tho with a refreshed Zaheer , Sehwag and Tendulkar in the team that India will prove just too strong for Eng...
