Amazing forward, would swap every single one of our strikers for him! Shame we are not in contention for such a wonder talent

Iniesta and Xavi are both clearly world class.

btw this is a good question for united fans, what skill is rooney a top 3 player in the league for? what does he do that no other player in the league can do, or is limited to rooney and another player?
i struggle to see what makes rooney special now. earlier in his career he was the best player in the league or at least the most likely player to do the unexpected beside henry. i remember one of his highlights from back in the day he ran the ball half the pitch, beating 2 or 3 players and laying a peach of a chip, SIDEFOOTED in to RVN who finished it brilliantly. that rooney was the one who was undoubtedly a top 5 player in the world. this one i dont know.

Redas but surely a SS should have the ability to score goals as well as create ?
I am not going to deny Rooney has weaknesses but Suarez's chance conversion is worse than any of our strikers.

Maybe football isn't for you. And I am being serious.

Good as Xavi and Iniesta are, I do think Barca are an exception as if it wasn't for the players around them, they would not be as effective.
I believe you could put Ronaldo and Messi in any team, and they would stand out, Xavi and Iniesta, could you say the same?
I tend to agree with one of the posters above and say the likes of Zizou, Maradona, Schmeichel, Messi, Henry, Cruyff are 'world class'. People who can win a game on their own, I'm not sure Xavi and Iniesta come into this catagory.

Why does everyone keep referring to me as "one of the posters above"??

Well both stand out for spain, as their best players and both are probably crucial reason they won the european and world cup.
Both are on par with zizou. Easily.
No one has ever controlled midfeilds aswell as xavi has.

goals come from good football imo, its the reason why rooney scores so many goals for us. in fact it the reason why all our strikers given time will get you goals.
but i do not judge strikers by their goal tally. i judge by overall contribution and doing what you are meant to do. take for example, hernandez. if he had as many starts as welbeck, he would probably have more goals. But i would take welbeck ahead of him because he might miss those chances, but he will also stretch the defences, hold it up well and eventually create chances for others. our style of play is better with welbeck this yr than last yr with hernandez. welbecks goal tally or finishing ability is not close to chica's but that is not the end all and be all of his position.
rooney gets goals and i credit it to being perfect for the system i.e. timing of runs, playing on instinct especially in the box. but the flair which is being looked for by the team (which is why people keep moaning about the midfield) must come from him as well as the other midfielders. the close control of silva or the gliding of pato past defenders, the powerful running and unpredictability of aguero; these take a lot pressure off the midfield and also helps a team maintain possession in the oppositions midfield. that is why SS cost so much and are so rare.
the funny part is rooney had all of these talents in various proportions early on. everyone on these boards saw it and fell in love with rooney, rightfully so too. what bugs me is people remember the old rooney but are satisfied with this unspecial albeit effective rooney. i want the special player.
another question for united fans, when was the last time rooney was the unquestioned best player in our team?

I wouldn't quite go that far, but they are bloody close. BusbyBabes, I think you are talking out of your pipe again.
