Two things that MUST now happen

Number 1:
The new England manager must either be Harry Redknapp, or somebody who it is clear will only be in temporary charge for the Euros, with Redknapp coming in after.
Its all well and good suggesting the likes of Roy Hodgson, but is he going to receive full backing from the media and public in the long term? I dont think so. The vast majority of fans want Redknapp, and anyone else will be under constant scrutiny and working under the threat that 'Arry will eventually come in. By all means have someone like Pearce or Curbishley in charge for the Euros, but they would need to be temporary with Harry then coming in for the long term.

Number 2:
Terry has to go. In fact, the old guard as a whole have to go. I don't care if he'll be proven innocent after the Euros, if we take him with us there will be constant media attention on whether he should be there or not, and this negativity will ultimately lead to our undoing, lets save ourselves the hassle. Get the likes of Cole (past it defensively), Barry (never good enough), Lampard and Rio (both had their chance) out and give youth a chance. We're not going to win the tournament regardless, so we may as well give younger players vital experience to develop as individuals and as a team.

Harry Redknapp will steer England to a respectable 3rd place in there group.

Then so be it, as long as he does it with the likes of Smalling, Baines, Walker, Sturridge, Welbeck, Parker, Wilshere etc

And they will steer England to a respectable number of major tournament failures.

A respectable number of tournaments though....while the Scots will remain at home

You can't bring a new manager in and then dictate his team. Let Harry decide for himself.

The problem with having a temporary manager, as always, is what happens if they do really really well.

I am not talking about winning the Euro's, but what if we played well and got to the semi's? That would only be the fourth major semi final in our history, and then you say to the guy who got us there, thanks, but no thanks?

I don't think a temporary manager would work at all, personally, but that adds another problem, in that we have qualified for a major tournament and are basically forefeiting our chances by appointing a temporary manager whom the players are unlikely to get behind much when they know he will be gone in a few months.

For me, it should be permanent only, and if 'Arry does not want to leave Spurs now, or at the end of the season before the Euro's, then tough, time for someone else.

Arry's a thicko though he said himself,can't text, can't e-mail ,can't write even

He can motivate, inspire, and get the best out of players. Leave Kevin Bond to write the names on the teamsheet.

I think getting Harry, or anybody else, in now permanently would be a great mistake; the England manager has enough to cope with without being landed with the current circumstances. It should be a short term appointment to cover the Euros.

But there aren't many obvious candidates. Except one. Sven. A far better manager than given credit for by the press. With the best record as England manager of any in modern memory.

He knows the players, and many of them know him. He's good with players, an important factor because Capello going will send a shock through the whole team. He can pick up the pieces, and get the team fired up for the Euros. And he has something to prove.

It has to be Sven!

Good god no. It's only the catastrophic reign of McClaren afterwards that makes people think Sven wasn't that bad.
Since then, he's failed with Mexico internationally, and also with Man City, Notts County and Leicester despite being able to write down whatever figure he wanted on the chequebook in order to sign players.

Get them fired up? Why didn't he try that when we were losing to the 10 men of Brazil in 2002? Rather than sit with head in hands on the bench.

He knows the players: He does indeed, from years ago, and the likes of Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard and Gerrard are nowhere near the players they were back then. He'd have them all in the line-up and as usual we'd lose to a much more mobile and technically gifted side.
