No football today. So what are we to do?
After seeing there's quite a few names on the Gathering post both young and old I thought I'd ask...
What was the first Palace game you went to?
and if anyone is old enough did you go to the Burnley game in 1979?
First CPFC game

Afternoon all. Mine was probably Palace v Burnley in about 1968ish not a Palace fan at the time that happened about 5 years later. Remember all the games (except the Sarge's) but also the away match against Blackburn (I think their 3rd attempt at the play offs) when they scored their third in the 94th minute.

First game ................versus Oxford, 1973-74, i was 5/6yrs old but i can't remember the score.
As for Burnley '79, WHAT A NIGHT !!!!!!!!! Stood right behind the goal, Holmesdale end, with my grandad. Ran onto the pitch at the end and grabbed a handful of grass, put it in an envelope i'd brought especially for the moment, and joined in the celebrations tugging my grandad along with me (he was partially sighted).
Anyway, about a week later i opened up the envelope to plant the grass (in a corner of our garden) and it had all died!!!!! I was gutted

My first game was on Saturday 1st October 1977 at home v Fulham.
From a hazy memory I think it was famous for a very strange end to the match.
Virtual for anyone who can remember what happened.
Was also their in 79. Had to wait for my dad to get home from work and then got the train from Gipsy Hill.
My dad says that we were one of the last in.
Also remember watching the cup final the next day when Man Utd came back from two down only for Alan Sunderland to grab the winner.

Did you have to look up the date or do you remember?

Of coarse I remember it, I was "7 yrs old" we stood behind the goal on the slopes of the old Holmesdale, and like I said I didn't speak English then so can't remember the players names, but remember going to the game. When I look for the results I look for Palace first and Ipswich second.
Thanks for that info Hil, and where did you get that from.

ETD yes I remember that one. The ref blew for time and the players trooped off we were a goal down I think and the crowd were confused as it was a bit early. After a few minutes they all came back out as he had (presumably) deducted time added on rather than adding it on. We still lost though. This was the days of Gilbert, Murphy, Sansom, Nicholas etc etc.

Well done CP !! Enjoy your
The ref blew up 5 minutes early with Palace 3-2 behind and all the players went down the tunnel and the crowd started to go home.
I stayed to hear the other scores and then all of a sudden the players came back out again and people started coming back into the ground.
Can you imagine that happening today !!

My first game was watched from what is now the Arthur, round about block X. My dad took me as he felt I was about the right age for it.We stood on a really slippery slope, I remember that.
We were playing Chelsea and I remember seeing Peter Osgood as I liked him.
Shortly after we stood in the same sort of spot to watch Man Utd, Bobby Charlton, Bestie et al.
I can't remember the outcomes of the games but it would have been somewhere between 1967-69 I should think. I remember too coming second in the league to Derby not long after as well as that would have been my first season of going regularly.
Fast forward to the Burnley game and I was stood at the back of the Holmesdale with my mate. We wouldn't have missed that for anything. I remember making a point of being there extra early unlike ETID.

If only your granddad had suggested keeping that grass. You could have smoked it when you were old enough
You would have had a bit of Selhurst Park in you forever..

It's been really good reading everyone's stories. Hopefully it will lure a few more people back and can have a read of theirs.
It appears we've got quite the team of Palace experts here!
So at the first game I went to I saw Heskey score.... twice!
