Cantona vs Suarez: The Difference

Hi guys, a good game for the most part Today! Obviously I'm happy with the result but saddened by the main talking points.

I've noticed that many of the Liverpool fans have been referring to Eric Cantona's infamous kicking of a fan some years back. Specifically asking, if Fergie thinks Liverpool should sell Suarez, why didn't he sell Cantona? Which, I suppose could be a fair point as both physical and racial abuse is absolutely horrible to witness or worse, become victim to. So here's my take on the matter.

Yes, I'm a United fan but I'll try to avoid bias as much as I can:

Eric reacted to a fan who 'apparently' said something about hoping Cantona get cancer and he reacted in an unprofessional manner and was rightly suspended.

Suarez reacted to Evra and himself having an on field dispute with a racist comment and was rightly suspended.

Now, forget for a second the severity of racism and let's, for arguments sake, regard that physical abuse and racial abuse are as equally wrong as one another, they are both horrible and disgusting but at the same level as each other, if you follow me.

It would be justified then, that they both received the same punishment, so if Fergie had said 'sell Suarez' after that then, agreed, he should have sold Eric.

However, he didn't say it after the racial abuse from Suarez.

Fergie made his comments after Suarez, making his PL return against the team that contains the player his comments were directed at, refused to shake hands with the player and blasted the ball at the dug out.

Kicking the ball I'm going to admit, I've seen players do it time and again and had it not been for the circumstances then no-one would have made a big deal out of it.

But Fergie, who obviously respects the history of Liverpool FC, had probably never in his career seen a player refuse the customary hand shake of another player in a match with this much hype, respect and history.

I think Fergie saw it as an insult to an incredibly proud club. To an incredibly proud rivalry. I think he felt that Suarez's actions Today (AFTER the whole racism saga) portrayed a player who showed no remorse, no respect for his opposition, no respect for his club and a player who had no desire to just get his head down and play the beautiful game to his best ability, because he is a good player to watch!

Most players after series like this, Rio Ferdinand after the drugs test, Cantona after the attack etc come back and try to keep a low profile off of the pitch and a high profile on the pitch so they can show their regrets and show to everyone watching that they want to play this game that we all love and play it in the right way, and show they're bloody good at it too!

Thoughts guys? I've tried to avoid bias as much as possible so let's keep it strictly to relevant topics.

Ferguson has mostly kept quiet on the issue and before today talked of reconciliation and encouraging the players to shake hands whereas Kenny has been trying to stir things from the moment the incident become public. Predictably though the scousers start shouting that Ferguson is a disgrace Kenny could rant for hours on the subject and Ferguson could say one line and we would have the same reaction.

I am having a hard time figuring out if the scousers are just stupid or incredibly biased.

The scousers on here are incredibly biased mate. I've got scouse friends (I know, hurts to say it) and they want Suarez gone.

Going back to the OP, since LFC fans on here are comparing both incidents and wonder why SAF didn't get rid of Cantona, I've got to ask, why didn't Suarez get a 9 month ban? To be fair of course, since both incidents are being compared.
