Attendances So Far In SL

Home ground attendances make for interesting reading in SL so far in 2011.

Wigan 17200 +9
Leeds 15100 -2
Bradford 13400 +62
Hull FC 12400 -10
Warrington 11000 +3
Hull KR 8300 +1
St Helens 8300 -26
Catalan 8000 +18
Castleford 7300 +10
Huddersfield 7200 -2
Wakefield 6600 +10
Salford 4600 +10
Crusaders 3500 -23
London 2900 -16

Total 1,165,000
Avg 9,400 +2

St Helens this year playing at Widnes has hurt attendances there, but the two other poor ones are the two with the lowest averages already. It's a shame that London and Wrexham are not doing better. I do not think they should be under pressure over it, unlike some M62 Luddites. I think expansion is the way forward. What it does show is how hard it is to change the Football obsessed British public to think of another sport if it comes to their area. Marketing has often been poorly done, but the truth is in any pub in London, any sport talk will probably be about which Football player sneezed last week b4 how the 'Quins RL team is doing. It's all uphill overcoming Football, but the progress in the London area generally proves it is well worth pursuing. In a few years good Welsh lads will be coming into SL also. Keep the game spreading.

ooh and the 35,000 fans thing and the health and safety thing, was firmly tongue in cheek, seems Widnesians have also lost their sense of humour, must be a rugby league thing

Widnes fans have never had a sense of humour...

yeah cos like I assumed if we had a bigger stadium, say 35,000 it would fill every week, come off it j7, what I am saying is Wire havent had the success that Saints have had, I feel some of their fans take it for granted and dont bother following the regular season, just spend all season preparing for Wembley or OT cos you can bet your bottom dollar, they'd be more of them there than would have attended probably half of the seasons attendance put together

Playing in St Helens last year didn't they average higher then yourselves? Despite you being cup winners and them empty handed?

Plus isn't Warrington the bigger place? Hmmm...

J7, an attendance of x amount doesnt determine how many x supporters and how many y supporters where there, they may have averaged a bigger crowd but then again, their stadia did hold 4 thousand more than hours

What's stadium size got to do with it? Again unless your selling out and fans who want to go can't get in.

Basically your saying Saints have the highest % of support that don't go each week?
