Andy Murray Myth

I hate this myth that the media have created that Andy Murray is born in the wrong era and that's why he's won no slam.

Federer MAY have been the greatest player ever at one point, but he is 4-5 years past his peak, yet still is winning tournaments in this SUPER era.

Hardly any young players breaking through, when was a last time a teenager made a big impact in a slam?

Del Potro has been playing in the same era as Andy and has won a slam.

Courts have been homgonised for Murray-type players, eg Murray would have much more trouble on the super-fast grass court or in the French Open when players like Alberto Costa, Kuerten etc. used to base their whole year around the clay court season.

Also, there are great players in every era, before Fed, Nadal and Djoko, it was Agassi and Sampras, before that Becker, Edberg, Lendl, Wilander, before that MacEnroe, Connors, Borg etc, etc, etc.

Maksi, I can understand if Murray has fans and they want him to win like you do.

However, the reason I created this is due to the Murray-Maniacs turned Murray-Guards who were giving it large at the beginning of his career and now are changing the goalposts every year.

I have never seen anybody giving it large regarding Andy Murray at the beginning of his career JT. To be honest, I would be amazed if he ever did win a major and have always said that. My biggest point is that nobody on our shores has a cat in hells chance of getting into the second round of anything, and in Andy, we have a boy who mixes it with the best players on the planet. Like Pol, I don't care what the rest say. Andy gives me hours of tennis pleasure, and wins more than his fair share.
Good luck to him, who is giving it all he has, and not doing a bad job either. How any Brit can knock that, and criticize his efforts is totally beyond me. We are the laughing stock of world tennis without him, absolutely uselss.

Maksi,

He is without doubt, the best player Britain has and whilst he may give you hours of pleasure, I find his baseline brand of tennis boring and feel 80% of his points are won by waiting for the other guy to make a mistake. It is effective though, I'll give you that.

He's not alone in this, Nadal and even Djoko (at times) bore me by staying back, running for every ball and waiting for the other player to crack. Michael Chang used to do it in the 90s and I never liked it then either.

This article is from BBC 606 in 2009, check out the comments regarding Murray, when I doubted him then:

JT, he is British. We should be proud of his efforts. When did we care, or even listen to peoples predictions on BBC 606 or ja 606. These forums are full of rubbish

just true i have to agree with maksi surely we have to get behind our only hope of winning a slam and whilst i agree andy can be too much of a counter puncher (hopefully lendl will change this over the course of the next year) you cannot fail to be impressed by his vision, touch and feel around the court.

i know as a scot i'm biased (always rooted for henman at wimby cos i didn't follow tennis so much then) but come on regardless of how the press or other people have built him up just get on board mate.
couple of points away in january from a 3rd straight aussie final. that tells me he will probably win a slam before he retires

Murray had his best chance to win a gran-slam....he was fresh as a daisy after 2 withdrawals and will continue to just make up one of the numbers from here on.....destined to be a bridesmaid for ever and a day, unless of course he can find 3 withdrawals in a semi's...
