So sad that its come to this

Although I'm not a Liverpool fan, one of my best sporting memories growing up in the late 70s and early 80s was the way that Liverpool team dominated English and European football. They always seemed to play the same 11 players and played their football with skill and passion. Of course they also sickened me when they 'stole' Dalglish .

Fast forward to 2012 and how the mighty have fallen, they now seem content to settle for a Europa League place and play terrible football. To see the Liverpool fans celebrate a lucky League Cup win over a pub team (Cardiif 0 - 3 Hull last night) as if they'd won the CL makes all football fans just a little embarassed. A 3-0 home win over the worst Everton team I've ever seen doesn't change a thing. Even the most die-hard scouser has to admit that watching Livepool is now a chore and an expensive one at that.

The question now is how to fix this slide into mediocrity. For me Dalglish must go and a proper modern European manager installed. If Liverpool have any ambition left they must go for Jose Murinho when he leaves Madrid. Also Stevie G is finished as the key player. I know he can still have a one-off game like last night but you can't build a team around a player who's fit 30% of the time. The policy of buying rubbish must also stop (e.g. Adam, Carroll, Kuyt etc.).

It must be hard for the Liverpool fans to see no way out of the shadow of Man U, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
