So we move our best player, from his most influential position?
I think Berba has been tried in the number 10 role a number of times anyway, his style is (in my opinion) just too languid for our style of play, unfortunately.
Just noticed this;
"The only thing that lets him down as a striker is his finishing. I think he should play in the no. 10 instead of Rooney since the latter is better as a striker instead of a no. 10 guy."
I hope you are a wum.
BERBATOV AS A PLAY-MAKER?

Please, no more thoughts, or if you must think, keep it to yourself.
Lol his finishing is not the problem. Its the fact he likes to hold on to the ball for too long
This was just a suggestion.
For all of Rooney's genius he isn't a proper out and out no10. He lacks the first touch and intricate ball control that a no10 like Kaka/ Fabregas possess but his finishing abilities are world class.
We saw that in 09 when he was played as a lone striker he scored the most goals. That's why the suggestion. Now the question arises that what happens to Welbeck and Chicha. But let's face it - both can only dream to be a s good as Wazza.
The article was jsut a thought at how we could ahave better utilized Berba who will moslty move in summer.
Not Berba bashing but he's too slow for our game, Fergie wants Utd to play with pace. Hence why we have Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Young, Valencia, Nani all players with pace to burn.
Berbatov is a wonderfully talented player but does tend to slow down attacks, and for all his brilliance he affects our game in a negative manner.
Hence why Fergie doesn't play him.
intricate ball control that a no10 like Kaka/ Fabregas possess
...............
Kaka is grossly over rated and Fabregas plays in the centre of midfield.
Berba lovers.....let it go.
The guy is a class player playing for the wrong team. He just doesn't suit our play at all.
We play fast, direct, counter attacking football, using the wingers when at our best......When Berba plays he slows it down to walking pace takes about 4 or 5 touches and allows the opposition to get everyone behind the ball.
We play much better with Welbeck/Rooney. They stretch back fours all over the place and allow space for Nani, Young, Valencia and even Scholes in recent games.
True ^
When 1 touch is enough Berba takes 15
Ronaldo's wink
I'll breifly explain this to you. Rooney is best as a number 10, he is our playmaker, almost every attack goes through him, and bar Scholes, he is our best passer of the ball (and probably in the league), he is our most inventive player.
When he plays up front, he comes deep, gets frustrated and this leaves nobody up front, just like vs Athletico. Also, his top goalscoring season was arguably his worst season for his all round performance and contribution to the team.
Let's not forget, he is on track the beat his goalscoring season in 09, as a number 10.
He'd fit right into our team then. Does he give the ball away cheaply too? Wayward passes? Lazy first touch? Horrible second touch?
I think im on about Ji Sung Park there
intricate ball control that a no10 like Kaka/ Fabregas possess

Kaka is grossly over rated and Fabregas plays in the centre of midfield.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
But you can't deny that in his peak he was class. WPOTY. Has Rooney ever come close to winning it? Yes and how can you compare Kaka's ball retention and control abilities to that Rooney's? How can you compare Rooney's finishing to Kaka? Rooney is miles better in that.
Fabregas for Arsenal played in the 'hole' or classic no.10 position
It's time for Berba to move and I wish him well, awesome player but like Veron doesn't suit our game at all.
Fergie has already said he's likely to go anyway so what's the point in the article?
he is our best passer of the ball (and probably in the league)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
No, he isn't. Carrick and Scholes are. It's amazing to see that most of Rooneys "crossfield" or "Hollywood" balls are only to the right and only when Valencia plays. When Nani plays he doesn't display that passing ability.
Note that I haven't for once critisized him and he is a genuine world class player. But mu only opinion is that we would be better playing with a play-maker and Rooney than Rooney in a no.10 and a striker.
The 09/10 version of Rooney was the worst I have seen. Yes he was scoring a fair amount of goals, but his first touch had gone, his passing had become wayward - he just wasnt the same player. When England then tried to move him back into the hole at the world cup, it proved disasterous.
I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks Rooney is a better as a lone striker than a no 10 either dosen't watch him very much, or is a complete nutjob.
But you can't deny that in his peak he was class. WPOTY.

Rooney is far superior.

No he did not.
"Has Rooney ever come close to winning it?"
Well I think he has been nominated 3 times, which isn't bad going. Not forgetting Kaká didn't have players like Messi and Ronaldo to contend with.
Plus, they are very different players, Kaká was all about a burst of pace and his link up play, he rarely pinged a ball 40 yeards and then finished up on the end of the cross like Rooney does.
It's time for Berba to move and I wish him well, awesome player but like Veron doesn't suit our game at all
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on. I feel the same but somehow I get the feeling that we would have utilized Berbatov in a better fashion than play him as a lone striker which we did many times. Not exaggerating but he could have been our next Cantona with that sort of flair, panache and persona..
Was that the season where Valencia put most of his goals on a plate for him? Was he really that bad?

No he was not, to be honest. I think it was more of a perception than anything else.
We were just not used to seeing Rooney up front and not playing his natural game.
His touch and short passing was not consistant though, that is for sure.
