I'd still like us to take a punt on someone like Immobile or Belotti , score for fun in serie a over past few seasons (failing us getting someone like Werner)

Werner slightly more adaptable at playing on the left wing as well, not as keen on him as a lone striker, has nearly always played in a two upfront

Well Frank no longer playing cards close to his chest. Very explicit with those comments.

Yup. He knows we don't have the quality in this squad.

But I think we need to look at chance creation, and not just finishing ability.

Willian today routinely got into good positions, but failed to create a meaningful chance.

Likewise, Tammy camping in and around the area doesn't give us much creative outlet.

Werner 2 goals today, just sign the guy

He said already he won't move until the summer but we should definitely be after him at that time.

Frank wants an established goal scorer in January. He will have to pay top dollar and some. I think he shd wait till summet

Can't look much further than Havertz for a young goalscorer from midfield. Sadly I would hate to imagine the price Leverkusen would put on him.

Frank: “We are looking to bring people in, as I’ve mentioned before, and we know that the areas to win games is by scoring goals and being clinical.”

I think Lampard needs to hit home on the lack of movement than finishing. Similar to last season, whenever a player receives the ball, they will hold onto it until they realise that they can't make the decisive pass, then release it to the next player a couple yards away to repeat.

Our main attacking threat of Reece and CHO's crosses isn't going to cause defences much trouble when they're organised and prepared for it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tbh I still think we try to over play it a lot of the time. Lampard has already touched on how many times we take touches in the oppo box between players rather than take a shot, still comes to light in a lot of matches where an attack will break down due to 4/5 overplayed passes between 2/3 players rather than a shot or one pass and shot etc.

What's Werner got this season now, 27 goals in 27 apps?

Feels like Frank has had the complete wrong take away really. The most urgent issues are the lack of meaningful chances when teams defend deep, and our defending from set pieces.

The only clear cut chances created today were by Newcastle ffs

Derby struggled with this too, so it's a little strange that Frank hasn't learned anything.

Maddison is 2 years older than Mount and Grealish is 3 years older. People would have been laughed out of the room if they suggested either of those as top quality signings for Chelsea when they were Mount’s age, so why is Mount being almost written off in his first ever PL season?

He’s better than either of those two were at the same age. Neither Grealish nor Maddison are good enough to warrant blocking Mount’s development IMO.

Safe to assume we all know the issues and to be fair to Frank he does as well, and sadly it's not always a case of being able to change it if you don't have the players to do it.

Can only set out the players you have to do what you want and sadly that doesn't always work.

2/3 signings and to be fair I think we are sorted. Desperately need someone who can score one chance though.

Not true, Abraham had at least two clear cut chances, and Willian did have one as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They were hardly as clear cut as the Newcastle chances though.

At least from what I remember, one of Tammy's chances came out of a lucky deflection, and not a registered pass.

Mount/Tammy/RJ etc have been excellent for the step up they've made this season. I feel a bit for Mount as I don't rate him being played more on the left.

Wouldn't mind seeing him play behind Tammy directly. Has a good shot on him just needs to use it more, doesn't get that opportunity as much being more out wide.

It's because Maddison and Grealish are currently playing at a level above Mount.

Also, there is no guarantee that Mount will become that good; he's been poor this season bar from a couple of months at the start.

I cant knock his attitude or work rate, but he looks pretty limited technically on the ball.

posted on 18/1/20

I would stick with him though, I just don't think he is ready for being the creative spark, and goal scoring midfielder this team needs.

I have loads of faith in Mount, seems to have the right kind of attitude to go and eventually maximise his talent level, along with the perfect manager to help him along the way.

Think he’s done better than anyone expected for a first season in the PL.

Grealish 6G/5A.
Maddison 6G/3A.
Mount 5G/3A.

Hardly a world of difference between them.
