Kepa was going to Real Madrid in January before we bought him for about a third of the price.

Not sure why it broke down - but the fact we paid so much in comparison does surprise me - with or without transfer clauses.

What I will add to this debate is it's no good just saying "Get rid of Kepa". You have to have a realistic plan about who to sign who is better, and whether it is the immediate priority for the team.

For me - even with Kepa in poor form - a winger, a left-back, a back-up striker, a ball-playing defender are all more important.

Would agree - even de gea had a couple of stinkers. But yeh we need a couple of leaders on the pitch

Frank: "I think the impetus to bring in a striker or players potentially that can get on the end of these chances we're creating is there, and we have to be really honest about that.”

'Chelsea have made contact for the signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, according to claims from Spain.

Outlet AS says it was the Blues’ goalkeeping scout Christophe Lollichon who spoke to the player’s entourage about his situation and his demands for a possible move.'

Caballero replacement.

Palace' first-choice keeper.
Wouldn't settle to be second choice at Chelsea.

Guaita would at least provide competition because at the moment there's nothing.

One thing i don't get is, in England we have the Norovirus, usually once every 2-3 years it pops up in the winter october to december and about 50% of the country get it, i got it this year (was fkin horrible) and people do die from it and it is really bad but that is not classed as an epidemic or global news, isn't this Coronavirus just our equivalent of Norovirus?

Class in the champions league too last season. Wouldn't say I'm desperate but it'd be nice to have a left footer on the wing to give us a different option

Michy Batshuayi will get his chance to stake his claim for regular football with Giroud in talks to leave Chelsea and Tammy Abraham a major doubt after injuring his ankle.

“He starts tomorrow. Yes, this is a chance for him," Lampard said of the Belgian. "Part of that has been ... we have seen his breakthrough and the consistency of [Abraham's] game, but yes, this is a chance for him and clearly, he certainly has got to take that chance in terms of his all-round game and goals and his overall performance.

"There have been times this season where he has come on and he has made a difference, and that needs to be consistent.”

Yep.
All-round being the operative word. Can't be any worse than that display against Notts Forest, surely...

I'm really interested to know who was the driving force at the club behind us signing Kepa.

Lollichon said he wanted us to sign Areola from PSG (and as far as I know Lollichon has had huge influence over the club's goalkeeping policy since he joined in 2007 and was briefly given some bizarre title like director of goalkeeping after Courtois demanded that he be replaced as goalkeeping coach).

If I remember correctly, Sarri's press conference after we signed him wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

I guess it must have been someone in the recruitment/scouting department. But it just seems a bit odd.

Interesting question because that person is likely still at the club in a position of influence re transfer decisions which is a concern. Personally that doesn't make me feel very comfortable because we're going to have to be very astute in this summer transfer window and beyond if we want to get back to where we want to be in coming seasons, challenging for the PL and CL.
