I think Willian ranks highly in our wingers. I think I only came to appreciate his talent in the last few years. I know he splits opinion now but I think he’ll be looked back on retrospectively with much fondness

My best memory of Willian is when he suddenly transformed into Juninho and started banging in free kicks for fun

So the government are considering taking away our right to excercise even though the vast vast majority are following the social distancing rules as best as they can.

The amount of damage they'll do to people if they take away that basic right doesn't warrant even thinking about. People will be driven into depression, anxiety and probably much worse. It's totally inhumane.

I didn't see anybody in my area over the weekend disobeying the rules. I took a walk along the beach that would normally have been packed on a sunny spring day and there wasn't even one car parked along it. Only a handful of people were walking around.

Coronavirus-hit Boris Johnson is having checks in hospital today amid calls to hand over the reins of the UK's fight against the disease while he recovers. The PM was dramatically admitted to St Thomas's (pictured centre today), near Downing Street, last night after doctors became concerned his symptoms have still not subsided 10 days after his positive test. Mr Johnson is thought to have been given oxygen treatment, with claims he had 'risked his health' by keeping up a frantic workrate.

well not that over 600 deaths and 4,000 new cases is really promising but at least it's a bit less than the last week

Problem is Superb it provides an easy get out for people not obeying the rules. Eg someone in a busy park sunbathing could just say they've gone for a walk in the park and having a quick rest if confronted by a police officer

End of the day I'd like to go back to back to normal so there is still a summer this year, and I'd be willing to sacrifice 3 weeks of outdoor exercise, which I do enjoy, to get therr

Three weeks would be a ridiculous amount of time to stop people being allowed out if their homes just to walk and get fresh air.

Also you don't know it would be three weeks. They might have us couped up for months under this no exercise rule. That would mean no summer effectively as you'll be watching the entire summer through a window in your home.

Questions have to be asked if this would even have an effect on the death rate/rate of contagion, or if it is just nominal

That’s my instinct too. Anecdotally for most people the majority are adhering to government rules. There are utilises, there’ll always be outliers. The effect of social distancing should still occur even if there are the odd teenagers hanging out in the park. Is mobilising a stretched police force to stop people sitting or lying down on their own outside really going to make a difference? If we micro manage to that level you could even argue the interactions of police officers with those people multiple x/day increases risk of spread!

Even in a scenario where exercise is banned, people will still have to leave the house for food/medication/key work. Then you have a similar problem of ‘what if someone goes out to walk and claims it’s for food/medication/key work’. And there will still be a small minority who still intentionally break the rules.

Lockdown is just one part of this fight and, at risk of sounding ‘woke’ or over-cynical but it seems the government are being successful in shifting the blame onto the public* to make everybody blame each other and less on some of the government’s other failures in preparing for this. I think it’s reasonable to keep lockdown as it is and focus on mass testing, contact tracing, increasing face mask use (ie what the few countries who have flattened the curve have done) and ventilator orders + PPE for healthcare staff.

*eg. Matt Hancock, who has rightfully been under scrutiny, threatened recently to bring in no exercise at all. This probably will be brought in at some point. If/when it does, the public will lament each other that it’s their fault. I don’t know why Matt Hancock can’t praise the vast majority of people who are adhering to the lockdown rules and encourage it to continue. Positive reinforcement.

Are we really going to punish the majority because of a minority? There are many ways to deter individuals from noncomplying than to impose a national full-lockdown of movement. Exactly.

BK everyone in my area is adhering to the rules from what I can see. There are always going to be a small minority that don't even if a no exercise rule (can't believe that's even a thing) is introduced.

Punishing the compliant vast majority would be scandalous, ridiculously unfair and would result in untold physical and mental damage to a huge amount of people.

There are *outliers, there’ll always be outliers.

Maybe more succinctly, to summarise. I would argue we already have ‘lockdown’ sorted in this country. It is equivalent to most other countries in its rules and the vast majority are adhering. There will always be a small minority not adhering. It’s unfortunate, it’s frustrating, it’s the reality of managing a 60 million+ people. If lockdown is sorted and we try and keep it going which the majority are doing, focus on the other aspects of this - it isn’t just lockdown that will solve it.

In the following vid, a policewoman in Brighton asks a man sitting on a bench on his own outside to get up and walk. He claims he has sciatica and is in pain, and was having a rest from his walk. She says he’s not in pain and to move. Is this really the micromanagement we want from lockdown, and does it even have an effect on the actual goal of slowing viral spread?:

Yup there's zero evidence. Letting people in to supermarkets to breathe in the same air in confined spaces and touching the same things but not letting people out in open air to excercise is nonsensical to me.

All this while flights have been let in from highly infected countries with zero testing and while the government no longer deems covid 19 to be dangerous enough to be considered an HCID.

So what is the solution then?

People need to adhere to the rules, so what we just let them roam free to spread the virus as much as they can?

Morons brazenly ignoring the rules will have consequences and unfortunately there are too many people in the country to police on an Individual basis.

If everyone stays home the virus can't spread its very very simple.

The people sunbathing and going to the beach need shaming and they need consiquences for their actions.

So it's either full lockdown or a policed state.

It's not a debate

Also people's mental health needs to take a back seat on this becuase again that's a minority compared to the "mentally fit" people.

Either way it's going to be tough, this was never going to be easy it's a horrific situation all round
