Update @kaihavertz29 & @ChelseaFC: Havertz wants to leave @bayer04fussball already this summer because the club has not qualified for Champions League. Because of that it would be important for @ChelseaFC to qualify for Champions League to convince him

As things currently stand we have to beat Norwich, Liverpool and Wolves....

Lets see what happens with Leicester and United though

Both teams will be fired up after watching us lose yesterday......I actually think United have more chance of dropping points agst Southampton than Leicester do agst Bournemouth

Genuinely don’t care what happens between now and the end of the season as long as we get into the CL.

Wasn’t too fussed at the start of the season but given we’ve been in the driving seat basically the whole season it would be tough to take throwing it away right at the end.

I'm still not fussed tbh. I like what I've seen but we're not CL level yet, Bayern showed that gulf in class, I'd actually prefer us to go into the Europa because we the squad we'll have (+ even more young players) I'd back us to win it.

The only argument that swayed me away from that was the CL attracts better players argument but the signings of Ziyech & Werner are done, Havertz will be going to a great club if not to us (likely no tipped by CL or not), and the LB's we're looking at - Chilwell, Telles, Tagliafco - probably won't care.

I think getting a CL place I would care more about if this was an experienced and quality squad who had a good chance f winning it. But I think Europa league in a way ‘suits’ the squad and manager for where they’re at right now. For competition, European experience, potentially developing a ‘winner’ mentality and a hunger for more trophies. I think a strong Europa league run is more beneficial for this team than getting CL and probably going out in round of 16.

I understand your thinking but to miss out on Champion League at this point would deprive us of some top drawer signings like Havertz. The squad is young and have exceeded most people's expectations. Add some quality to Ziyech and Werner and offload those not good enough and the team will surely improve.

I totally get that view Bov, but history has shown that wilst not having CL football can affect some big name signings it is still perfectly possible to sign quality players whn not in the CL. We are a fashionable London a global name in football...that still counts.

United and Liverpool have been able to sign quality players whilst being out of the CL

And I am worried about being linked to Havertz for that reason...If we spend 90m on him, i just don't see how we have enough money to address the much more critical issue, imo, of our defense.

We four high quality players for our defence.

Two CBS, one LB and a GK. Now whilst I don't expect all of that to be addressed in just one window at the very minimum i feel we need in this window 1 new CB and 1 LB

Increasingly looking like Reece James isn’t the answer. Agonisingly slow, physically and mentally. Like he’s stuck in mud.

Too early to come to that conclusion for me Nick and I don't think he is slow physically, he made some great recovery tackles yesterday.

A 20 year old player with his burst of pace/ body strength and crossing ability...i find it hard to write of that king of talent..

I remain on the fence though if full back is his best position..

However, he has been exposed for slow thinking at times and his positional awareness had been poor too.

I’m not sure he’s been particularly good at anything other than crosses this season. Maybe bad memory

I am not certain, but i think he could develop into a really good right sided midfield player . He is strong as an ox and a brilliant crosser from the right hand side. He could become KDB lite if he learns the position
