Midfield is a bit concerning against teams that take the game to us. Maybe it’s the formation but we don’t look comfortable in terms of transitioning from defence to attack when they’re pressing against us.

Even though we have some talented midfield players.

Pulisic had a good 15 min spell at the start of the second half but that was when the whole team was playing well. Pretty anonymous otherwise. Couldn’t build attacks properly so he wasn’t really able to get involved.

No need to crap the bed anymore as long as Mendy plays. Silva as well ideally. In the two games Mendy has played we've kept clean sheets. That speaks volumes to me and indicates that the defensive problems we've had are not as sistemic as some have claimed. And much more down to the fact that we have been playing the worst keeper by far in the league.

If Kepa played for City or Liverpool then they'd be so much worse defensively as well.

Bravo proved that for City the year we won the title. He was their version of Kepa.

Well, I won’t be commenting on the match this weekend anyway, if that helps. I am intentionally missing it, such is my misery at watching this crap,

I don’t wish for an argument, and I appreciate you were disappointed, but I found the spinning by several users that yesterdays borefest was a great example of resilience to be even more galling than the cyclical complaining.

I should add, I have sat next to season ticket holders who slag off every touch of the ball.

Well I want to kick the match thread habit, not because of last night, but typing during a game is way to distracting. So I'll pop in for HT and maybe a wonder goal, but other than that I will stay off it and watch the actual game in more detail. It was easy to take my eyes of the game last night though as not too much excitement.

You can dismiss the 15 month argument if you wish but frankly I would expect team shape, positioning, balance and a clear style of play from a manager by that much time. Fundamentals of football frankly.

Rubbish excuse imo to say that because he got given lots of money we can ignore repeated failings and mistakes last season and now this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I ask what these repeated failings and mistakes from last season are? We finished top four and got to the Cup Final in a season where almost nobody gave us a prayer of top four going into the season.

What more were you expecting from last season exactly?

Have to agree

I see mendy got motm lastnignt, I personally thought chillwell was. We had imo silva mendy and chillwell all 7 or above out of 10.

Havertz and James very solid.

The rest under par. Including my boy Christian

Zooms was a worry at times...but he gets into scoring positions too...which he needs to improve upon

Fair enough Biggish.

I will stop watching and typing, I got out the habit lost season and posted only at HT.

Yesterday was dull even if you were less critical of the performance, that made the online debate more lively and spiky, Frankly it was more interesting than the screen

I do recognise that me daily talking about the teams failings can be draining, but I feel I have no choice but to respond to people seemingly suggesting we are a GK and CB away from perfect Lampard harmony, and that Mendy and Silva will be the panacea for our problems.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mendy and Silva were a HUGE bonus last night...hence the clean sheet

My problem with Lampard is that I don't understand the style of football we're trying to play and I'm quite confused with team selection and in game management.

Pep - possession based
Klopp - pressing
Mou - sit deep, counter attack
Ole - shiithouse victories
Arteta - counter attack

Lampard - we attack, you attack?

Are you saying City don't press then TJ...?

And Liverpool don't sit and counter....?

Slightly narrow thinking here old mate

You're spot on with Man United mind...

Was trying to just sum up their styles in a couple of words. Of course City press too. Liverpool usually play that high line so not necessarily known for sitting deep.

I'm just confused by what direction we're heading in. There's no real identity to our game yet

First half against Southampton was very good. I don’t know why that can’t be the benchmark. Maybe they made it too easy for us.

And I am going to comment again on the match thread last night. It is of course my personal view but I want to get it off my chest.

I don't see the necessity during 90minutes of live football to constantly leverage one's view and narrative about the team and the manager. Imagine if you were sitting in the stadium and the fan next to you just slagged of everything that the players and the team and the manager were doing. Is that fun? Is that support? I don't think it is personally.

Fans criticism pre and post match about players ma agers etc is what this is all about and that is great.

But last night I felt there were people just wanting to put a downer on the whole game. It want objective in anyway and I didn't like it at all.

I am not wanting to upset people by writing this, but that is how the match thread made me feel last night.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I probably disagree you on most things, but I can see somewhat where you are coming from.

I think its fair if we are discussing team selection and substitions though. As this is happening in real time.

Also, where does this stop exactly. I wouldn't begrudge moaning about a players performance, or a tactical issue. So I can see that it's fair if this directed to the manager as well.

But at the same time I do see that for others the constant critique can get too much during a match.
