Yeah I didn’t particularly enjoy the 2016 tournament. The 3rd place in the group going through made it way less exciting. Expanding these international tournaments for more teams, more matches and more money at the expense of players and the spectacle is annoying. Good for the smaller countries I guess who wouldn’t otherwise qualify.

That is what it is done for sadly.
Same reason the Conference League was created.
Same reason Super Cups take place in obscure backwaters. (No offence Randy).

UEFA have to keep 50 plus countries happy for their leaders to keep their jobs, often at the expense of the spectacle.

Euros used to be the best international tournament in terms of qualities with no gimmes and a guaranteed group of death possibly even two.

Now it is a bloated mess.

World Cup is going a similar route btw. 48 teams in 2026.

In cricket I support Pakistan rather than England
But England are my team for international football, given I support an English club and Pakistan basically don’t have a team

Chilwell is actually good in the air but Jose does actually hate Shaw haha. In the same interview he did what seems like a sly subliminal at Shaw. Something like ‘you can see Shaw has evolved..he is now mature, he is now professional’
