Harry's small squad

you're probably right. I still think players like Gio and Defoe only improve on their performances if they have a proper run in the team. How a club or manager can expect progress from a player who plays 10 mins every now and then to do the business week in week out is beyond me.

We all moan that Rose, GDS, Pienaar & Livermore are not good enough, then when things are not going well, we claim we wanted these players to fill in alll along.

Wow, 37?

Gio, Pienaar, Townsend and Livermore should ALL have had more of a chance this season, Oh well its too late now

Regardless of numbers, there was an article on here a while ago showing how many minutes our first team's played this season.

Only Evra from the United squad would get into our top 5 of minutes played. This is why we're frustrated - Harry has the players but will stick to his favourites until their legs fall off

quantity but no quality.

8bit - you ok fella? Your wum attempts are going downhill fast. And with all the ammo you've got too

Come on, you can do better - I believe in you

There is quality there just not enough of it for where we want to be

As Bales says, Harry has his favorites and alienates everyone else, so much for a man manager

England job will be perfect for Harry

Oh, ok 8bit.

I do wonder if any of the players really care about Harry going - they're probably more bothered about the CL.

You wouldn't think it though watching them at the minute

It would be nice to know how our players really feel about Redknapp but they will never be honest until 30 years later when they write a book

whilst pienaar hasn't set the world alight with his performances for us...boy cld we have done with just his energy and determination in midfield recenly..

number-eight i agree with you on the most part, but to be able to keep players fresh during a LONG season, everyone needs to play their part and it seems like Redknapp just never understood this, he didnt learn from last season

Personally i rate Gio, he did more in the 10 minutes he had on Saturday than Defoe did ALL game!

what junction says, same goes for Niko too - our squad players are inevitably going to be slightly worse than the player they replace.

You have to give them a chance though, not only to save legs but they might surprise you and earn a place.

wen harry gets it in for you...your done for it seems.....

Anyone heard the joke about us?

Pienaar was our best player on Saturday

I still think we can do better than the likes of Kranjcar and Pienaar, but whilst they are here we should play them from time to time especially if things are not working out!

RRP - I think we've all seen in recent games how much passion counts at this stage of the season, not to mention fitness.

They would have been invaluable right now

RRP,

As Bales says, Harry has his favorites and alienates everyone else, so much for a man manager

===================

I dont think its necessarily his favourites, its just that our first XI are way, way, above that of our fringe players. As such, unless we suffer injuries, it makes no sense to reduce the chances of winning by changing players about.

Man United, City, Chelsea etc all bring in players they consider as like-for-like, we dont have anyone like-for-like for Walker, Bale, Modric, BAE etc. Their understudies are weaker & i think we would all have been moaning had HR dropped Bale, Modric etc if they were available & fit.

I know i would.

Bales - Not sure Kranjcar would show much passion, he usually comes on and mopes around! But Gio, in the 5 minutes he had he was running his socks off, i know that sounds made that im saying he has passion, but it certainly looked like it!

Chicken - If thats the case we learned nothing from last season, you cant play the same players week in week out and expect things to stay fresh, we are out of ideas now on the pitch, we should NEVER have got to this point.

I can still see Walker, Caulker, & Livermore being good enough to stay at Spurs for years if they keep up their current form. They've all been excellent this season.

Walker with his pace and willingness to get forward, Caulker for his brute strength but actually being very good positonally and Livermore who has shown excellent passing ability.

You'll never get better quality 'squad' players than Niko and Pienaar imo. The problem with Niko, very much like VDV and possibly a few others, is that they need to play as often as possible to keep in gear.

Apart from looking a bit out of depth in his first few games (no surprise) I've been incredibly impressed with Livermore and was amazed when he lost his place to Sandro.

Read mentions that he had a bust-up with Harry, anyone know any more than that?

Someone mentioned Ferguson - well he is the absolute master at rotation and balancing a squad imo. Constantly changes it, at least a little, and keeps it fresh - introducing new/young players gradually and, quite honestly, playing squad players much worse than our worst, but always gets the best out of them.

RRP,

I think the problem may be that we never actually suffered injuries to our main players this year (not a problem in itself as we dont want injuries, but its why they have played full seasons - and not rested). It sounds stupid, but i dont recall long lay-offs for Bale, Modric, BAE, Walker, Parker etc etc.

As i say, in my book if they're fit - they play. It just so happens they have not picked up bad injuries, like Bale did with his back last year. Why would we drop Bale (for example) just on the off-chance he may look sluggish later on in the season? I've said many times, i dont think we should play lady luck with injuries & we should get as many points on the board as quick as we can.

As far as i'm concerned, there was no right time to rest our big players this season.

If we rest players like Modric & VDV early in the season & drop points - what would we say about that? I know what we'd say, we'd be saying Harry doesnt know what he's doing.
