Its good news for United - he could do with a rest after carrying our midfield on his back for much of the season.
I'm so dissapointed for Carrick himself though.
I'm happy for him, as he has clearly been getting his end away with the wives of every FA board member out there
its so funny scholes and carrick and cleberley all dismissed.
I just have to
I wish good old 'arry Redknapp was in charge as he would have picked carrick.
It was clear Hodgson would be a disaster even before he picked that squad.
He is Mr Safety so of course he'd pick the usual suspects, and show no ideas, but ignoring Carrick's season is simply ludicrous, especially when picking the likes of a limping Parker, Milner, Barry and even Henderson (standby) ahead of him.
Gerrard has hardly played this season, and when he has he's done practically nothing other than that trick game. He's also more and more injury prone. Yet he get's captain's arm band and an almost guaranteed place, probably alongside Lampard knowing Roy's lack of imagination.
Then Sturridge doesnt get picked, but players like Downing with zero assists and goals gets picked.
As for Ruddy wtf?
I actually think this is the worst England tournament squad I've seen for almost 30 years.
Only a foreign coach would pick Carrick. It was Sven and Capello that tended to pick him anyway. Capello even picked him when he was properly out of form.
Its nice that he will be fresh for next season but you gotta feel for him. As a professional it must hurt to achieve what he has and get no recognition for it.
*Bloody Henderson crazy*
I usually don’t take any notice or care that much about the England squad selection but obviously with the new appointment I was intrigued to see what sort of statement and decision Hodgson would make.
Now I feel sorry for him to an extent because if he goes and make wholesale changes and brings in the youth that people are clamouring for – a team that have never played together or experienced a European tournament they could get smashed. However, you could also say it’s a win/win or maybe a lose/lose situation as people are not expecting the older players to fare much better.
Regardless – I was confident that he would at least make his decision based on form and the type of football he likes to play. For this reason I can’t see why Carrick has been left out – he is the type of ball playing two footed player he likes – someone he could build a sort of “European” type side around.
Also is Micah Richards injured? Im guessing Kyle Walker must be injured too?
BTW How the hell does he use the rationale that Rio cant go because he's hardly played for England in the last year or two, despite playing for United a lot and well, yet Gerrard goes as Captain but has played about once for England in 19 months and has been injured most of this season.
Roy is sooooo bad.
Rio not getting in may well help us – he will be determined to prove people wrong next season plus will have a rest over the summer. Having him and Vidic back together will be a big plus for us – even if its just for strength in depth. Eventually Evans Jones/smalling will replace them and having quicker players at the back will mean we don’t have to drop so deep when defending as I think this has been part of the reason we have failed to control games
Def good for United, but just find that fool Hodgson's rationale on Rio a load of nonsense.
He's bottled the Terry Rio confrontation by coming up with a lame excuse about Rio.
Rio's played more time for England than Gerrard in the last 19 months, as the latter's played just 33mins, so to use lack of International games over that period is frankly ridiculous when Gerrard is then taken and made capt on top!
Gerrard hasnt even been fit for Liverpool most of this season, and has struggled to string games together.
Arghhh can't stand Hodgson. Knew he'd be a disaster.
maybe the fa wanted a yes man pick this squad or else.
