you have to name 3 keepers and they can only play in goal. some orwelian nonsense like that
You HAVE to name 3 goalkeepers!? Are you sure? Aside from it making my article redundant, that is probably the most ridiculous rule I've heard in ages! Surely a manager can pick whoever they want?
Yep you have too take 3 i think, I heard this debate when people were suggesting taking Rooney instead of the 3rd choice keeper.
You have to take 3 and I think this makes sense.

yes.
At the last world cup someone tried to name an outfield player as their third choice keeper (think it may have been korea) and were allowed to do so - but they didn't realise he'd only be allowed to play in goal
Yeah North Korea tried pulling a fast one
Zaphod has it right, if I remember rightly Fifa only told them after the squad had all been finalised and everything.
But then FIFA and UEFA are both sticklers for nonsensical rules, such as not letting Argentina retire Maradona's #10 shirt, and the silly rules around stadium sponsorship/naming, etc.
It's a daft rule, it shouldn't be forced on anyone to take 3 keepers
But them the rules do little point worrying over it.
I see little point arguing over this rule, as you can still take whoever you please as outfield players, with 22 players amounting to two full 11s. So the requirement for the 23rd to be a spare keeper makes little difference anyway imo.
It's so the tournament doesnt descend into farce, as keeper is such a key position.
Any team without one might as well go home, and it would make a mockery of potentially a massive match on the word stage and the event. The organisers rightly wouldnt want this happening even if a team wanted to risk it.
This is also why even if they all get injured I'm sure you'd be allowed to call up another, unlike other positions.
