IMO the answer to this depends on how good a side you are, and also whether qualification counts as part of the process being debates, which it should IMO.

If you are the best team in Europe I think it's easier to win the CL than it was the European Cup, simply because you are much more likely to avoid unlucky nights costing you the tournament as was the case when it was a pure cup competition, and you are more likely to be consistent over a lot of matches, particularly when 6 of them are in a league format, and you sometimes only have to win 3 home fixtures to reach the latter stages.

However if you aren't that great a side, then the European Cup was easier because it was shorter, and in those one off fixtures you stood a better chance, not to mention the fact you were more likely to draw easier sides as you progress to the final.

I also feel you must factor in the fact you had to first win your domestic league to even qualify, and this makes it hugely harder for teams from the top leagues to win the event. These days its relatively easy to qualify for the event if you are a big club.
