Those players stayed and Fergie retires. What ever happens IMO Fergie will stay for another 3 years max. Whereas, the players you mentioned will be with us for longer. We will never be able to replace Fergie, however another manager could still do a decent job with those players.

I need to procrastinate as well. Revision is doing my head in. lol

Hate so say it, but Fergie leave.

At the end of the day, Fergie will be going in the next 5years, that is inevitable and we can't escape that. So at some point we will have to deal with that, and it will be soon.
But if we were to lose all the players you mentioned on frees, then the long term future of the club would be in serious jeopardy. Obviously Fergie retiring will be very difficult for the club, but as that is bound to happen soon anyway, have to go with that option

Yay, no procrastination for me anymore, I can get up at 1 and not feel guilty about it

Silly question.

Procrastinate further by thinking of a better one.

I don't buy into this theory that SAF can't be replaced. Another manager may not do it the same way or have the longevity but may come in and wins as much as SAF.

This is dependent on the board hiring the right man.

Every day you remind me what a plastic glory hunter you are.

SouthLondonManc,

I'm with you on that.

Another way of looking at it is this: what exactly is it that we are trying to replace?

If we are trying to replace the man who came to United during a period of Merseyside dominance, and had to rebuild the side in his image in order to topple Liverpool and ensure years of continued success, then yeah, we'd have a problem.

But we're not.

SAF will be gone at the end of next season IMO. He said he's stay for 3 more years MAX before last season, and he's already said it didnt work when the players knew he was leaving at the end of the season, so if he was genuinely saying 3 years max I'd expect him to leave at the end of year 2, just as Pep finishes his sabbatical and Mourinho decides that Madrid contract extension was a mistake (unless it has a secret United clause).

It wouldnt surprise me also if Mourinho is currently trying to prove he can commit to a club for the long term in case SAF does stay on for a while yet, as that was always thrown at him before when it came to pros/cons for the United job.

What have I said that is plastic? The fact that I refuse to fret about the day he retires? The fact you are fretting makes you more of a plastic.

I actually agree with SLM. Having said that, there aren't the sort of managers that COULD do that available. Also with City having the budget of whatever they want, it's a difficult ask for a manager to come into a team in transition having just lost the league. He'll want his own staff, players and his style of play. That's the main thing that concerns me, it will be difficult for some of the people currently at United to adjust.

If

Many things are aligning that would help the next manager.

1) FFP
2) Reduction of debt, hence increased budget.

Like I said, imo the very few managers who could do as good a job as SAF aren't available (currently).

Agree...

If the suits upstairs appoint the right man, then why should we stop being as successful with a new man than the great man himself?
