Gluck has always been the face man for GSE So my question is will we get a new face man or just get shafted without anyone to shoulder the blame?

3 stars: 666 and Mostyn for me!

666's advice to the groundsman about how long the grass should be is often wrong in my opinion, especially seeing as the last time he actually saw the grass at Pride Park was when it was a rubbish dump.

Mostyn keeps advising Andy Appleby to hire Mick McCarthy as manager, oh wait, thats actually 666 as well. Sorry Mostyn. We normally just blame you for everything anyway and slate your opinion, so have another slating for old times slatings sake!

There is a job going in Derby at £277,000 a year and all you have to do is mumble a few platitudes and say no Nigel there isn't any money, and it's yours. I am sending my CV there today.

I dont get the jist of this article!

But yeah, a lot of people blame GSE for what happens on the pitch when it's bad, but credit Nigel when it's good.

Just cos Glick is leaving, it doesnt mean that will change.

Mostyn, that's because GSE are in charge of finances, not the manager. Yes, Clough allocates the money, manages the resources, but I am sure he'd rather be given £1.75m that Jewell had to bring in Hulse. £200k for Theo Robinson!

Clough says we can't afford to let players wind down the last year of their contract. Do you think he might prefer to keep Bailey as a back up under better financial circumstances?

Clough gets more leeway because our poor runs of form usually occur/coincide when we suffer injuries and the thin nature of the squad is revealed, like last winter when Clough was forced to bring in Priskin and promoted Ball.

GSE divide opinion, but I don't think there are any magic alternatives out there so as long as they keep running DCFC on a day-to-day basis and long term strategy (Academy), then I suppose we have no reason to complain - for now.

Where I differ from you is that I don't think a change of manager would make much difference as they will have to manage under the same restrictions. It's ironic that Wolves want to go down the path of developing more of their own players - why Curbishley turned down the job - something McCarthy failed to do.

Yes, Clough has disappointed but look at where we were: 11pts! No club has imploded to such a degree since.

Let's not forget that the Academy was here long before GSE.

Let's remember that GSE do not know anything about football and are reliant on the Manager for guidance. They will follow his route. Just because GSE didn't close Moor Farm down when Jewell was here doesn't mean that they invested fully in it either. The Academy under Jewell hardly created a player worthy of the first team because we had the investment to put seasoned professionals on the pitch. Just because we now have Academy players coming into the first team doesn't make the Academy a success, it just shows the lack of depth and investment in the first team. The players we are getting excited about are 15 & 16 years old. The chances of them ever making a significant contribution to a Rams season are slim at best.

GSE have nothing to be proud about. They have taken us from the Prem to mid table championship team who are losing our championship quality players and reliant on kids.

still, there are some exciting new initiatives to look forward to and the matchday experience.

Brilliant Iwas

A lot of fans have forgot about the "Global Brand" statement and are now patting Glick and GSE on the back for dragging kids up from the youth team.

We are a mid-table Championship team who can't compete with the footballing giants the Championship, like the Barnsley's and Brighton's of this world, on transfer fees or wages.

Thanks GSE, but no thanks!!

Plaza anybody??

I don't know, Iwas, I don't think I agree about the Academy.

It takes time to nurture and develop young players and this requires time/resources/strategy and does not happen overnight

You could argue that GSE & Clough are finally utilising the Academy and achieving what Lionel Pickering aimed to do upon its opening nearly a decade ago. A lack of continuity, instability, constant turnover of staff, managers preferring to buy players than nurture youngsters (stand up Billy, guilty of the same charge at Forest).

I agree that the Academy covers a shortfall in investment, we need more investment to take us to the next level (a quality striker) but Academies are the way for sides to build teams over the long-term.

I think we also need to put to bed this myth about us being a PL side in 07/08. Yes, we were in name but not in deed and we were already cut adrift by the time GSE took us over in late January of 2008. That's just simply fact.

Money has corrupted the game. We offered Danny Buijs an opportunity and then he turned round and asked for more money, apparently. With Academy players, we get a good deal. They are offered opportunities and if they do well, they move on - if they do well, that means the club does well too, and also earns transfer fees.

I don't disagree with you Cap'n. I know exactly what Academies are used for but I complain when I hear GSE being given the credit. It's Nigel who is owed the credit.

posted on 31/5/12

Small amount of credit maybe? GSE have slashed costs overall, and could have looked at the Academy, which costs a significant amount of money in staffing and other costs to run. Had they only been interested in "lining their own pockets", as many have suggested, you might have thought that this was an easy target, especially as any benefits from it financially are likely to be reaped once GSE have left. So to keep the Academy immune from cost-cutting shows, at the least, a modicum of far-sightedness, surely?

hendrick , ball , bennett , hughes, o'brian of those five how many were bought to the club by the present management .How long have these lads been on our books ! Honest question , I have no idea . If they have all been here from the age of twelve or fourteen then its little to do with gse or our present staff. They have of course had a hand in the development of these lads but we will only judge our present staff in a couple of years time.

I think Ipswich were thinking of downgrading their Academy which caused a lot of anger and was regarded as short-sighted. When you think of the money we've wasted either on wages/fees & pay-offs (Claude Davis, Carroll, Albrechtsen), then I see £1m a year as an excellent, practical investment.

Robrea
I assume a lot of youngsters are attached to clubs from a very early age (juniors) and coaching them is a gradual process dependent on a number of factors with some youngsters developing faster than others.

Whether the players named were here before the manager, Clough has been the one who has integrated them into the team, which you could argue is the final stage and possibly the most challenging.

Will NC be on the short list for the jobs at Norwich and Swansea and if not why .
Will gse bring in a director of football and will this upset NC .
Why is our season ticket sales going down every year .
Are we in the s
Are we the club on the verge of being sold to the rich bloke on tonights midland news who wants to buy the championship club with healthy past , could this be why Glick left.
Interesting few weeks !

Robrea,
I'm not sure shortlists are indicative of anything. People are linked to jobs sometimes because they have previous links to the club and so are perceived as having a feel for it: I gather Graeme Jones is 1-6 on for the Swansea job as he was assistant to Martinez & similar Mackay of Cardiff to Norwich as an ex-player.

I guess STs have gone down for a number of reasons: some fans disillusioned with the board and lack of investment; with the manager and brand of football; and probably the economy is the main one. It's not cheap to go to matches esp if you have to travel.

Yes, I thought the same about the Kuwaiti buying a club, what with Glick's departure, but I think it's Forest.

Definitely an interesting few weeks ahead with comings/goings. Let's hope we bring in a decent striker or two.

would you want a kuwaiti owning the club?

pompey have been owned by oligarchs and that did them a load of good....

I don't think anybody would mind where a well-to-do owner comes from as long as things are done responsibly. Portsmouth paid wages beyond the reach of many PL clubs bar the elite. I also think Harry Redknapp played a part.

I admire the approach that we have taken, partly out of necessity but also choice. Let's be honest here. I would resent it if Forest get a well-to-do owner because they would patronise us. I prefer it when they have a bit of humility. They're insufferable when they start patting us on the head.

posted on 31/5/12

nah, they are insufferable anyway.

just shows how screwed our beloved football is that anyone can be pleased a kuwaiti could conceivably own an english football club. the whole thing is utterly mad.

how is it possible that "billionaires" like th glaziers and that pompey bloke can "buy" a club using the club that they dont own as collateral. huh? wtf is that about?
is that how the kuwaiti works.

So are we only about the Academy now? This is basically saying, come and watch youngsters trying to make it into a Championship team whereas I thought DCFC was about trying to win the Championship.

This is jst typical of advertising bullcrap feeding the masses positive stories in the hope they will buy into it and ignore the fact that we need investment in the first team as well as blooding a few kids.

It reminds me of Tories trying to push a bill through Parliment, the first draft will have some horrendous policy in there to deflect attention from the real bones. It'll get watered down but the bones will remain. This is the same, deflecting attention from the real issues and then maybe one striker will be enough to make the masses believe all is OK.
