RAP - That statement is irrelevant to the point I was making (& you're far from daft, so I'm sure you already know it), as, FSG formally approached Wigan to speak to Martinez, but then didn't employ him (for whatever reason) & Rodgers himself refused their initial approach as he was not prepared to speak to them as part of 'selection process' after a 'formal approach' had been made.

How you can deny the reality of this is beyond me. The Cult of the Kop closes it's eyes & ears to what's obvious to the rest of mankind again.

Let me reword that for you:

Rodgers refused their initial approach as he was not prepared to speak to them as part of 'selection process'.
FSG formally approached Wigan to speak to Martinez. They also made a formal approach to Swansea to talk to Rogers. After both interviews, they didn't employ Matinez but instead went for their preferred candidate - Rogers.

What's so odd about that?

Tobe is correct. They approached two chairmen, Martinez was allowed to have talks. Rodgers wasn't/rejected the chance.

Martinez rejected/was not offered a deal and they went back to Rodgers.....all in all a farce....not the Liverpool way.

Fellaini - did you miss the post were tb said Martinez had been offered the job. And the one where he said Rodgers wouldn't be coming?

FSG did their business behind closed doors - people believed what they read in the press - what happened to the 12 man list..etc. etc

The funny thing is that you and Tobes bought everything he and the press speculated about.

When you can prove that Whelan was lying, then I'd love to read the evidence, until then you're just forming a personal opinion that he's lying & FSG are being truthful - others (me included) don't quite see it the same way.

I would expect nothing else of your club other than them being categorical that Rodgers was your first & only choice - they have to say that.

I haven't 'bought' anything flung at me by FSB. There's been very little to buy.

Of course the club were going to say Rodgers was our first choice. What would it do to moral if they said 'We wanted Martinez, but settled for Rodgers'. It's the same as Robbie Keane supporting every club he's played for. You're not that naive are you?

You said that I'd "bought" the press speculation i.e. that Martinez was first choice & according to Whelan (who's still repeating it) was offered the job.

For that to be incorrect, then Whelan must, by defintion, be lying.

As for your last paragraph - we agree, as that's exactly what I've just said!
