I haven't always been Sol's biggest admirer and I think he certainly has his faults. But he's a good player nonetheless and if the plan is to replace him with the likes of Fitz Hall then I think we all need to start seriously worrying.
So far we've replaced Mills with Morgan, and it's quite possible we could end up replacing Beckford with Vardy/Waghorn, Peltier with Rosenior and Bamba with Fitz Hall. It's unfair to judge Vardy before I've seen him, so let's describe his as unproven. But in my opinion, those other replacements are all worse than the outgoing players. Hardly what you'd call progress.
I will miss Sol. I loved his Franz Beckenbauer like bursts out of defence (although your heart was always in your mouth) and you can't say he ever gave less than 100%. I guess he is just not a Nigel type of defender. Good luck Sol.
Best of luck to Sol. I've never questioned his attitude and have enjoyed watching him but smsespite this I was never concinced.
His moments of brilliance were never matched by consistency and getting the basics right for me.
I'll miss him but i'm not gutted to see him go.
With regard to potential I would say Mills is better than Morgan but in reality and productivity for our club last year, I think it would be difficult to argue the latter is 'worse'.
At the moment, I would say every single one of Pearson's signings is a positive addition to our squad and can't really see much evidence to suggest we are getting 'worse'.
Although obviously are all entitled to our opinion on who we think may or may not perform next year, but at the minute I guess it's all speculative.
Indeed we are KTF, and I know I was only speculating about the ins and outs. We haven't got anything else to go on at the moment! I like the look of Drinkwater and Marshall and I think they could both have a big impact next season. Marshall in particular looks like he could grab us some vital goals from midfield.
But I'm afraid to say that I've seen no evidence to dispel my initial fears when we signed him that Morgan is at best an average journeyman. Considering that we had a very good defensive record under Sven (it was scoring that was the problem) it disheartens me to see a potentially excellent defensive unit being ripped apart.
We started last season with Peltier, Mills, Bamba and Konchesky. Three promising, exciting young players and a wise head. IF NP has his way (provided, of course, the rumours are to be believed) we could start this season with Rosenior, Morgan, Fitz Hall and Shorey. Mediocre is the word that leaps out at me from that lot.
Ive already cried my heart out for Bamba in the other thread, but I'm starting to get peeved off with yet ANOTHER clear out. I'm not sure if I imagined it, but I'm sure when they brought NP back, we were told there wouldnt be another dramatic wipe out.
I dont mind clearing dead wood out, but do we really have to go through another season of "waiting for the team to gel" ?!
I like NP and really have faith in him, but can't say I'm impressed with this erratic behaviour. In some games last season, we were premier league standard (Norwich FA Cup, Southampton away, Derby, Palace Home) but consistancy was our weakness, suggesting to me that we need to shuffle a few players, rather than the majority.
I can't think of one bad game Morgan has had for us to be honest. He's quicker than I thought and certainly much better on the ball than I had expected after reading some Forest comments (as mentioned before, this was the same defender who was immense for them in 2010/11 and voted one of the best two centre backs in the league)
On paper I'm not sure how much I would like that back four mentioned above either to be honest, although I'd still view it as one of the better in the Championship and would also put it in the bracket of the quality of the back four that got us in to the play offs under Pearson last time.
In any case, I don't think he is after Fitz Hall or Shorey and Pearson's signings, on the whole, have been very good for us.
I do hope we keep St Ledger and give him a run though, I thought him and Mills started to look solid when they played together and he has been excellent for Ireland by all accounts.
At the minute though Blackpool, we have sold one first teamer (in some fans opinion Bamba wouldn't have even been first 11). I don't see, as yet, any indication of a mass clear out.
I'm with Madness and Blackpool on this one.
Firstly, the players we are either signing or rumoured to be signing are not as good (IMO) as the players we are selling/rumoured to be selling. If we're expecting young kids from the Man Utd reserves and non-league nobodies who have never kicked a ball in the FL to replace players with good-excellent reputaions then I believe we are going to be left very disappointed and risk having another awful, mediocre season.
Secondly, Blackpool is absolutely spot-on - this squad did not need a massive overhaul. The overhaul was made last summer, it did not require another one. Some of the deadwood needed to go (Pantsil, Oakley, Weale, etc) and we needed to bring in 2 or 3 good quality players to come in to areas where we were weak, and have been for a number of years. What we did not need was for a manager who failed to achieve his minimum requirement last season to take an axe to a strong but inconsistent squad and bring in players in his own image, and players who he could control. This is for the sake of his own ego and job. We now risk looking dangerously under-skilled, dangerously inexperienced and will no doubt need 'a season to gel' before we can even think about a promotion push.
Talk about taking a hammer to a walnut....
"The overhaul was made last summer, it did not require another one"
Again I ask, what overhaul have I missed?
The overhaul that will see Bamba, Mills, Beckford, Konchesky and Peltier leave the club before the season starts, and not to mention Abe, Fernandes, Vassell, Tunchev, et al....
KTF - I think this article sums it up really. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Clearout-Leicester-City-says-Steve-Walsh/story-16291796-detail/story.html
Mills is pretty much certain to go, Bamba has gone, Peltier seems to be strongly rumoured so thats 3 out of 4 defenders which started the season. We have lost a more than capable attacker in Vassell, and a good substitute keeper in Weale.
The above article suggests there is more to come too.
Phew, I haven't missed one then.
"Abe, Fernandes, Vassell, Tunchev, et al...." This is reaching a bit even for you Foxello!
Abe and Fernandes asked to leave, Vassell has been out injured and Tunchev? come on...
Mills is bound to go Blackpool, because he isn't a first teamer for us for one reason or another.
Peltier has been slated on here (not my opinion) and would surely be to make way for someone Pearson feels is more experienced/stronger which is fair enough considering how many fans have moaned we need to strengthen in this area.
And Vassell and Weale ........again, we have only sold one first teamer.
“But in my opinion, those other replacements are all worse than the outgoing players.”
-------------------------------------------
I would only start worrying when we know who the replacements are rather than reacting to newspaper speculation.
“I guess he is just not a Nigel type of defender.”
----------------------------------
Why do I keep seeing this? He was first choice when NP came and only lost his place during the African Nations, but even then worked his way back up to first choice. Could it not just be possible that the player himself, or his agent, has engineered this move and not the manager?
"Could it not just be possible that the player himself, or his agent, has engineered this move and not the manager?"
But this theory would involve no portion of blame or critique being associated with Pearson. That's no fun....
It's Pearson's fault for not doing everything he could to make him stay.
Who cares, Bamba was just another over rated but very average player left behind by Sven in his bloated, over rated but extremely average squad.
Anyone new coming in from anywhere can hardly underperform as much as last seasons starting squad did!
Good riddance to any player either not wanted or wanting to go, new season, new squad, new journey!
Have you seen the weather?........PEEEEEEEARSON!
I hear it was Pearson who made the decision to cut Rolf Harris off during the Jubilee concert.
Rumours circulating that he broke Gary Cahill's jaw in two places after an argument about what constitutes a traditional short, back and sides.
Now you're just being silly!
How anyone is attached to any of the players that took us to the dizzy heights of mid table last year is beyond me.
We don't need a major clear out but something clearly needed to change!!
Oh, come on guys. You know perfectly well that, if we managed to sell a player who was in a permanent vegetative state for £5m and picked up Messi on a free at £500 per week, there would still be someone moaning that this was an unnecessary clearout, that the only thing wrong with the brain-dead player was that Pearson didn't like him, that Messi was the perfect example of the kind of mediocre time-serving journeyman that we can expect from now on, and that both transactions were bad business.
Also, how can you be a journeyman when you have played for the same club for 10 years and only two clubs in your whole career?!

Bamba has left the club...
