All but 25 of those goals were scored in non-league football: 7th tier or lower. Had a good season for Gills last year though but as Victor said: would he come up North?

Generally, would rather us look at younger players who've done well in League Two or League One or can't get a game at a higher level than players coming to the end of their career and McDonald fits that description..

I just think that he's not as good as people make him out to be. If he wasn't so dam lazy and worked his socks of like his father did, then i would be more than pleased to have him.
I think we could get better and he may be the kind to cause discontent, within the club.

Fair enough. Personally, I'm not saying he's going to guarantee us promotion but I do think he's a good player and, given a full season, would score us 20 goals. He can be lazy, without being in the Sibon category but I don't mind that if a player has a bit of quality..

I don't dislike him and further more 25 goals in league 2 is a very good amount for a 22 year old.

Yeah, I know he had more than one bad game but it's gonna happen isn't it. You just can't expect players, at any level really, to be 100% on it for 90 mins, every week.....it just doesn't work like that. He scored a steady amount of goals & more often than not his performances were good enough.

I'm not saying MacDonald didn't have a good season, he's a player I'd like us to take a look at but I just can't understand how on one hand you can talk him up so much yet on the other criticise someone who scored 5 less goals, in less games, in a higher division for a team that in general performed worse!

Maybe because he is only 22 and this is what i personally would like to see us gambling on. My mate is a Norwich fan and most of the fans rate him very highly.
At the end of the day it's not me managing the club so either way sign him or not i wouldn't be bothered.

Maybe we should buy deadly ched as he only scored 4 goals less than mellor, in a higher league, in a bad side.

I think that at 22 he's good for a gamble and wouldn't cost the wages mellor wants.

If people don't like Mellor then fine but hanging your opinion on his record last season is a bit stupid: 13 goals in 2/3 of the games is a decent return, whichever way you twist it. Then again, the last player we had who got a few goals, Steve MacLean, couldn't please some people either..
