'Cody Mcdonald has scored 92 goals in 166 appearances.
Not a bad scoring record is that.'
All but 25 of those goals were scored in non-league football: 7th tier or lower. Had a good season for Gills last year though but as Victor said: would he come up North?
Generally, would rather us look at younger players who've done well in League Two or League One or can't get a game at a higher level than players coming to the end of their career and McDonald fits that description..

I wasn't making excuses, just stating facts. If 13 goals in 33 games isn't good enough for you so be it; I guess there's no pleasing some people.
....................................................................................
I just think that he's not as good as people make him out to be. If he wasn't so dam lazy and worked his socks of like his father did, then i would be more than pleased to have him.
I think we could get better and he may be the kind to cause discontent, within the club.
Hirstysleftpeg
Fair enough. Personally, I'm not saying he's going to guarantee us promotion but I do think he's a good player and, given a full season, would score us 20 goals. He can be lazy, without being in the Sibon category but I don't mind that if a player has a bit of quality..
It's getting ridiculous now.
Seriously, he once had a bad game, I saw him stop running for a bit, his dad ran his socks off in a time when most of them weren't as fit as today's Sunday league footballers etc etc
Moaning at that whilst creaming yourself over a player who scored a few in League 2 last season who I'd argue you'd seen no more than a few times, if that!
There's just no apparent logic to your argument.
If you just don't like him then fair enough, just say that & it'll do!
Oh & to the man with no name...just how exactly is MacDonald coming to the end of his career??
i_monster
Calm yourself - I meant he falls into the younger player category.

He had more than one bad game i monster.
I don't dislike him and further more 25 goals in league 2 is a very good amount for a 22 year old.
The man with no name - fair enough, I read it wrong!
I am calm by the way but thanks for the concern
leftpeg,
Yeah, I know he had more than one bad game but it's gonna happen isn't it. You just can't expect players, at any level really, to be 100% on it for 90 mins, every week.....it just doesn't work like that. He scored a steady amount of goals & more often than not his performances were good enough.
I'm not saying MacDonald didn't have a good season, he's a player I'd like us to take a look at but I just can't understand how on one hand you can talk him up so much yet on the other criticise someone who scored 5 less goals, in less games, in a higher division for a team that in general performed worse!
Maybe because he is only 22 and this is what i personally would like to see us gambling on. My mate is a Norwich fan and most of the fans rate him very highly.
At the end of the day it's not me managing the club so either way sign him or not i wouldn't be bothered.
Maybe we should buy deadly ched as he only scored 4 goals less than mellor, in a higher league, in a bad side.
So the whole argument is based on him being 22 & Mellor being 27/28(?)
Fair enough.
As for the Evans arguement, I'm sure he'd be good at this level.

stop making assumptions.
I think that at 22 he's good for a gamble and wouldn't cost the wages mellor wants.
Yes i agree i wouldn't mind Ched wearing Blue and White
Yes, if wages were not a concern I'd rather have Ched than the other two. Be nice to see him stick a couple past the pigs.
Evans is poo, lets hope we don't touch him with a barge pole.

He may be a pig, but he's certainly not poo
Don't worry. Mandaric didn't get where he is today by touching poo with a barge pole.
"If he wasn't so dam lazy and worked his socks of like his father did"
I can remember his dad getting stick off the Kop back in the day.
Surely, you've been making the argument that we shouldn't sign Mellor throughout this thread.....no??
I've already agreed MacDonald would be worth a look, but if rumoured prices of 500k are correct then it's a gamble I'd leave alone!
"He may be a pig, but he's certainly not poo"
Erm, yes he is. That's why he's at the lane.
This is all getting a bit silly; Mellor minus Evans = 4 blah blah..
If people don't like Mellor then fine but hanging your opinion on his record last season is a bit stupid: 13 goals in 2/3 of the games is a decent return, whichever way you twist it. Then again, the last player we had who got a few goals, Steve MacLean, couldn't please some people either..
That's because Steve McLean wasn't any good?!

No I monster, i'm saying let the Fat Fewker stay at Preston, because i believe hes not all that, but if we sign him, then come match days he will get my full support, as all the players do, even JOC
Hirstysleftpeg
Just so I know, if Mellor does sign would you go back to calling him the 'Fat Fewker' the minute the final whistle goes? Or is it more a term of endearment that you use during the game as well? Do you have any aliterative nicknames for other players?
Very noble of you to support 'even JOC' too, although, since he works his socks off, I thought he'd be just your sort of player.
