Stretty – are these twitter rumours?

Apparently according to whom?

sorry, no respect to baines but he's not good enough, and especially for the 15 million pound thats being mentioned.

I really hope this is true. He is a class LB with a fantastic left foot. He is probably my favorite non-United player in the PL

No thanks. The reason people are hating on Evra is because he doesn't get back fast enough, well Baines is just as bad at this as Evra.

Brilliant LB. In the top 2-3 in the PL in my opinion. Plus his age means he's right at his peak, plus it suggests Fergie has faith in Fryers/Fabio to take on the LB role in 4-5 years.

why would fabio hang around another 4-5 years?

Where did you hear this rumor?

Hope it's not true. Baines is a better than average LB there is no doubt of that, and he is a sound performer with quite a few good variables to his game, but he is not a player that will take us to the next level and close the gap with the very top performing clubs currently, and is certainly not elite standard in terms of Madrid, Barca, Munich, United etc etc. It would be a backward step imo.

Alba is the type and quality of player we should be looking at.

Just been told my a customer, Evertonian, that it's defo happening.

And he's an ardent toffee and despite being a friend of mine, doesn't particularly like United.

Again...He could just be going off for the media rumours. But he's ademant that Baines will be a United player next season.

Not sure how I feel to be honest.

If we spend £15mil on Baines, play Evra as first choice LB and then send out Fabio on loan and sell Fryers to Spurs, I would be downright livid.

The logic in that is well....illogical

I remember all on here (or the old 606) hating on Valencia when we bought him................

If true then give him a chance. I like him, a solid natural left footer who will give us other options / allow Evra to rest.

He reckons the deal between the clubs has been done for some time. Just waiting for England's elimination so he can agree terms and have his medical.

Again this isn't confirmed. Just something I have heard today and thought I'd share.

I think we need a midfielder far more in all honesty. Evra isn't for the scrap heap yet in my opinion.

I guess we'll see over next few days. Like I said it could be utter BS.

Agree with little pea – whilst Baines in no worse than what we have – he is no better.
Look at it this way – at his peak now he is unable to replace ashley cole who whilst still a class left back was miles better at 27 then Baines will ever be. He could help us win the league but I can’t see us winning the champions league with players of his and young’s quality

Any source?

I would be devastated if we staretd next season with Baines and Young down our left flank.

posted on 27/6/12

About 3/4 people have asked what source....so urmmmm, what's the source?

An while we are on it – I don’t think Alba is as good as everyone thinks. Paddy Mcguinness could play fullback for this Spanish side and look good

Jesus

Give me ********ing strength.

Smalling – that’s pretty much what used to be Aston villas left wing - Warnock and Young. Im all for buying younger players with potential and improving them but we really need to be aiming higher.

For someone who is apparently looking for “value” in the market SAF makes some odd signings

Evra – 5 mill
Baines – 15
Kagawa – 13mill
Young - 16 mill

Evra needs a kick up the backside, and also can't be expected to play 50 games every season as he gets older. 5 years of good service from Baines would be well worth £15 million. Fabio is probably going out on loan, and seems to be made of glass at the moment anyway.
