Is he finally going then? I was hoping we'd swoop in since Valencia had a fall out with Barca over the transfer. Ah well, I wouldn't mind Baines. Top 5 LB in the league I reckon.
Barca always seem to get players on the cheap
Yeah, he's definitely going Arab! Confirmed on Sky Sports News as well.
Albert
I have no idea, they win so much, every club knows they have the funds yet they sell them for cheap. It's like they want them to dominate, while not improving themselves as a club. If Daniel Levy was there, he would have at least managed to squeeze £20million out of Barcelona.
buying an english player from another premier league club always leads to an inflation in value of around five million.

Whilst we're on the point of Barca, we've arranged a friendly with them on the 8th August
really? where's that being played?
“@ManUtdStuff: Official: Manchester United will play a pre-season friendly against Barcelona in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium on 8th August, 2012. #MUFC #FCB”
Barca get players on the cheap like Fab and Alba because they make it clear they'll only go to Barca and if not they'll see out their contract and go for free or cause aggro for their current team if forced to see out a longer contract.
PS If it's 11m then that's bargain of the century.
What is going to happen to Adriano?
Every time I have seen him for Barca, he's looked class. Not sure Alba is that much better tbh, if at all.
How long did Alba have on his contract - anyone know?
If he's entering his last year it isn't such a surprising price.
shame. i was hoping they'd play it over, would have loved a few nights in spain.
Scratch that^^ complete brain meldown... was thinking 2010-2020...

====================
Exactly. If he's only got a year (or less), then £11m is quite alot.

It helps when every team in the spanish league is in debt!
Their TV rights are not sorted by the league and therefore, all 18 clubs outside of barca and Real pretty much earn next to money from TV rights seeing as though the only clubs that interest the public in Spain are barca and Real
Here though, all clubs are more or less stable so they dont have to sell to stay alive if you will.
He's suits their style of play. Perfect signing for them to replace Abidal.
Alba flying down the left wing, Alves flying down the right wing with Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas feeding Messi, Sanchez and Villa up top.
wtf

We can be sure other clubs wanted him, almost definitely United, and I'm sure they would have paid more given his age, quality and versatility if he had been willing to move to them, and on that basis Barca being able to force the move for just 11m means they've got a bargain with Alba's help i.e. him presumably saying I'll only go to Barca and if you dont sell me I'll go for free in a year. Anything less than the price agreed and Valencia would have just kept him for the year, and remember Barca would then probably have to pay Alba much more in wages in that scenario, which over 5 years could easily reach 11m.
Alba trained at Barca's academy for 7 years, he left for Valencia after but obviously he'd only want to go to Barca as he grew up there practically and knows the environment.
If Alba had 1 year left on his contract, then the price is fair
£11mil (some say £14mil) --> 23 year old LB with little international recognisition up until these Euros
£13-16mil --> 23 year old attacking mid, Bundesliga player of the yar, double Bundelisga winner, HUGE marketing value.
Of course Im talking about kagawa. Id say we got a better bargain than Barca tbh.
Just because you think Kagawa is better value, doesnt make Alba's price fair. Barca have got an absolute bargain if 11m is the real figure and they would have got that despite interest from other big clubs because Alba must have said he's only go to Barca or wait to see out his contract for free i.e. they've paid the absolute minimum Valencia would accept, not the price the market would pay if Alba would move to the highest bidding big club.
You may see some untried 23 year old, but I see Spain's and Barca's first choice left back for the next 8-10 years. A player that could easily replace Evra is one of the best left backs in the world, and on top has the versatility and attacking flair to play left wing if needs be. He is perfect for Barca and indeed United given how both like to play.
Meanwhile stupid figures like 15-20m for Baines are being talked about. Now there's a guy with little international recognition, and he's 28 this year.
