I actually think he comes across as a very nice genuine guy, but no one has a divine right to be selected, it should be on merit & merit alone! On merit Beckham is way short of the standard required.

For those of you who can remember 1966, Alf Ramsey took a decision that at the time was unthinkable........................................he decided to keep Geoff Hurst in the team instead of Jimmy Greaves, a decision which created uproar at the time. Much as I would have liked Greavesie to play, Ramsey was vindicated by Hurst scoring a hat trick in the Final.

Kent, that's where the whole conspiracy angle comes in. He left because he felt the support he was getting was rubbish and went on to become World number 1, but the simple fact is that there was one place up for grabs based on one qualifying event and he lost that fight.

Basing qualification on one event is scandalous in my opinion but that's what they've done. They've been trying to get it overturned and I'm sure the fact that he ditched the association hasn't helped him here.

As I say, I feel sorry for the number 88 because everyone's got behind this other guy going but he earned his place according to the rules laid out. I don't know why they both can't go, unless the IOC forbids it.

Great article, and I could not have put it better myself. I have had it with this BrandBeckham nonsense. It is what makes the world such a trashy place these days. This celebrity rubbish that is in all walks of life.

Stuart Pearce made the right decisions, end of. And when I listen to Brazil and Irani on Talksport still whinging on about it, and how Pearce should be brought to account and sacked, it really does grate on me. Sacked, for picking a team of his choice and not the medias.

If Beckham thnks the UK is such a noble cause to represent, why does he choose to live in the USA? Just a thought David, Leytonstone the place where you were brought up as not seen you for years, may be worth a visit before worrying about representing your country at football.
