Fletcher should just retire.
this isnt a knock on they guy, but i always felt he was a squad player at best, and after having this illness, he will never be that good again.
At the end of the day its football, your health is more important, and i'm sure he is well off enough now to not have to worry about money issues.
I don't think we will ever get a full season out of him again and I don't think that we will ever perform to the levels that he did in the 08/09. He has been doing quite a bit of TV work recently and I suspect that he is building a future for himself there. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he retires at some point this season. It is a real shame.

it is a shame, but to be honest i wont be bothered by it.
I'd rather he retired and got himself better than have him return and make himself worse.
after all football is only a game, and there are more important things in life.
His body would have taken such a battering getting over this illness & if he doesn't make it next season, then it will be a big ask for a near 30 year old box to box mf player to get up to speed with the PL with such a long lay-off! Good luck to him and us, as we do need his engine!
So with this all said the clubs needs to move forward, we all know a CM is required.
It would be amazing if the club didn't sign a CM this summer i'd be stunned. I actually think we need 2 CM's as i don't believe Fletcher will play this season. (certianly not more than a few games)
And yet i was reading quotes yesterday saying he was close to a comeback!
If this is the case, then for his own good he should pack it in.
What do we think will happen with Petrucci this season? I suspect it will be a loan, but I'd love to see him stay and get some playing time.
He may well come back but he looked really thin and weak.
Fergie has said they will give him time but I have feeling we won't see him back

Pogba is gone, Petrucci wants to stay, give him the spot and a chance to prove himself. He was awesome for the reserves last season.
I would love to see Petrucci promoted to first team squad, he's very talented and needs to be getting some games for first team now.
I hope he does stay, but I suspect it will be a loan move. He actually hinted at the prospect of going on loan this season in a recent interview - which he came across very well in by the way.
Here is a link to the Petrucci interview for anyone interested:

Petrucci has a great attitude, is grateful to be at united and wants to saty.
im sure i read somewhere he had siogned a new contract ??
Although he is a very rich man and doesn't need the cash if he does retire soon, which I believe is inevitable, I hope we keep him on in some kind of capacity at the club.
For what Fletch lacked in ability, he made up for in sheer effort. Not one of the best midfielders I have seen at United, but one of the best attitudes for sure.
Get well soon Fletch!

There were reports in the middle of June that he was close to signing a new deal, but nothing official and no direct quotes. Hopefully it has been done and the club just haven't mentioned it yet. Or he has been back home visiting and it will be signed when he gets back. I think the lads report back for training tomorrow, so I would expect their will be some news on it in the next few days.

can i ask the man united fans a real question?
just how ill is darren fletcher ? i mean if hes had to take a long hiatus from football then the man must be seriously sick ??
just wondering
I hate to say i told you so but i have stated here several times that i personally dont see Fletcher ever returning ( would love to be wrong) and it was a foolish decision when SAF extended his contract.
That being said, i wish him all the best and hope he gets well.
Re Petrucci: i am very impressed with him. I coined a few articles on bbc606 about him.
His attitude is fantastic and he deserves a shot at Utd.
Two pats on the back for The Red Connoisseur! You are having a good day sir.

He has a condition that he won't ever recover from, hence doubts about him playing again.

I don`t think even he could answer that question to be honest
Petrucci, obviously unlike pogba, values his place at United and wants to make the step up to the first team.
Hopefully Petrucci becomes the next, dare i say it Scholesy..........and pogba is another robbie savage!
It would be amazing if the club didn't sign a CM this summer i'd be stunned.

I've been saying this for the last 3 years...I've actually given up caring now as i don't think we are ever going to sort out this midfield. And if we ever do, it will be too late - i.e. other areas of the team will need to be improved by then.
It's such a shame because I thin kwe would have had an AWESOME team a few years back if we just signed the CM we obviously needed. Now we have an ageing defence, Evra isn't the player he once was (and we have no cover for him), Berba will probably leave, De Gea needs time to mature etc etc.
I'll always wonder how good we might have been if we had sorted out that position but now we'll never know as that team doesn't really exist anymore. We are building a new one.
Hope he gets his treatment sorted such a shame, wouldn't wish that on anyone.
