Valencia No 7

Yea me too.

People on here have short memories though. They all seem to have forgotten how good he was last season and want him benched so Young can play on left and Nani on the right.

I agree Nani is better on the right than he is on the left. However I think Nani is better than Young on the left.

Whatever happens, all 3 will get plenty of football, I just hope Nani and Valencia are the preferred option in the big matches.

I agree. Young is very VERY overrated IMO.

Who overrates Young? Most United fans on here seem to think that he is a decent enough player, but nothing more than that.

If you think he's a "decent enough player" then I think you're overrating him.

I think some fans have been very harsh on him, he had a good start to the season, scoring against West Brom away and a couple of belters in the Arsenal demolition, he got injured shortly after and admittedly had a few poor games, but he picked up again, and scoring 2 great goals at White Hart lane, and a important goal against Blackburn away. He also assisted Giggs in the winner at Carrow Road, he had a decent 1st season with us, and i think/hope he will be better off for it next season.

Young does have a good eye for goal, he seems to be able to squeeze the ball just inside the post (Blackburn away, Spurs away...) but Nani and Valencia should be first choice

I've never rated him. That never changed when we signed him. In fact, I was gutted we signed him.

Not being harsh on him. He's a decent player but not a world beater. Valencia, Nani and even Giggs got more assists than him last season.

This reputation of his fabulous crossing ability has been somewhat exaggerated. And he's as 1 dimensional as Valencia is too.

When he cuts back inside and crosses with his right.....99% of the time it gets cleared because the defence are facing the way they want to, away from their own goal. He needs to get the by line far more and make the defenders face the other way. However he seems very reluctant to use his left foot.

I think this is a thing he has brought with him from his Villa days, as this was a big threat for Villa at the time, our strikers arent really a threat in the air.

i agree with this.

I dont think anyone expected young to be a world beater, but he is a decent player to have.
put it this way, i'd rather see young on the teamsheet than park, who for all his endevour, has very little else to his game.

I do think it should be nani and valencia on the wings, although having said that, nani and yound wouldnt be too bad either, at least these two both have the ability to play on either side.
If valencia actually had a decent left foot, he would up there with the very best.

It MUST be Nani left and Valencia right. End of story.

And we need to stick to that with a regular fullback to compliment them. Evra is a given down the left, baines arriving or not, and Rafael needs to be first choice RB and given the number 2 shirt.

photographic evidence suggests Valencia does too

Can't say Im over the moon withthis news as I dont think Valencia has the charisma, personality or even the talent to embrace the legendary shirt but he's a far better fit than Owen

Kagawa 7 would've been a beautiful fit but fair play to the lad for wanting to make a name for himself first

And you come to this conclusion from the lengthy conversations you`ve had with both Valencia and Kagawa right?

posted on 4/7/12

Come on, charsima is something you either have or dont have and it is clear as day Valencia has very little of it.

As for Kagawa, hes already going to be a global superstar simply for being asian (majority of our fans are based therE), add the number 7 shirt and boom, shirt sales wouldve gone through the roof.

I think our #7 shirt will go to a guaranteed starter. Is Valencia guaranteed to start when fit?

it doesnt matter wheter we sell one, or 1 billion shirts, we dont get any more money, we have a set contract.

the only time it may make a difference is when it comes to negotiating new terms.

I thought it was all about contribution on the pitch and being a talisman for the club when you get handed the number 7 shirt, NOT how many shirts you can sell.

-------------------------------------

Kagawa never actually said anything about the no.7 short from the quotes that I saw. He simply said he wanted to make a name for himself and the tabloids twisted this into a story about the no.7 shirt.

I believe that he has some branding around the no 26, which he wears for Japan. It makes sense on a financial sense that we stick with the same shirt number in terms of selling merchandise in Japan.

As for Nani, he also has branding around no.17 I believe. I have actually heard that he was offered no.7 before, but turned it down.

It is interesting that young players will be ruling themselves out of wearing these iconic numbers in future for branding reasons and shirt numbers that they got early in their career.

to be honest i dont the big deal in the number 7 shirt anyway.
sure its been worn by best, robson, cantona, becks and ronaldo, but we are man utd ffs, weve had super players play in every shirt for us.
Rooney wanted number 10 because of best. Hughes wore it too.

Shrit sales may not directly increase our revenue, but the more we sell, the more we can bargain for the next time we renew our contract with Nike

Even so, Kagawa is talented enough to warrant the shirt anyway. He was Bundesliga player of the year and Ballon D'or 2012 nominee (albeit top 50). Valencia will never reach those levels and Nani only just managed it 2 season ago.
