He should just be grateful that he can join a team that could win trophies

He'd be mad to choose Manchester over Turin.

Manchester is where it's at Lexington

Wouldn't say city hold all the aces, MUFC would appea to him as he would have the opportunity to work for the worlds best manager, a guaranteed starting spot and a team with better European pedigree.

United are normally very cloak-and-dagger about their transfer deals.

Could it be a coincidence that all of this excitement, the tempting prospect of two new talents heading for Old Trafford, has something to do with the fact that the Reds still have season tickets for next season to sell?

With Ferguson by all accounts off at the end of the season that's not a selling point

Manchester has never been, nor will ever be where it's at, Paul.

Unless you're a rain fetishist.

I love it when they write off United

I find it funny that people actually get paid to write WUM articles.

I think this article is presuming that united are desperate to get van persie. He is a top player in the final year of his contract – why wouldn’t we bid for him? I doubt it has anything to do with season tickets as it was Arsenal and Sao Paulo who broke the news about the bids received anyway. Why would SAF confirm bids have been made if there is a risk he may not get the players and therefore make united look weak in the transfer market?

The only ace city hold is the ability to pay huge wages – united could match them for any bid as lets face it even city won’t pay over 25 million.

As I said at the start the main point here is that RVP isn’t integral to uniteds plans – if he had simply signed another contract then we wouldn’t even be sniffing around but considering his pedigree it’s just too good a chance not to put a bid in for. If we get him happy days – if not who cares – the money can be spent elsewhere

By all accounts?

As long as his health is okay, he'll be staying at United for a good few years yet, delivering a few more titles.

It's merely wishful thinking he'll be off. He lives and breathes United. He has tried to give up twice before and couldn't bring himself to do it. It's not like he does a lot of coaching anymore. He has a team to do that for him.

As for the season ticket sales comment.......We've sold more than City have Paul. If you had a 76,000 seater stadium it would be half empty but for 1 game a season.

Lexington - Turin is a doghole with a faintly interesting city centre. Pizzles down half the time as well.

OP : "United, constricted by their debt and the Glazer family’s attempts to find ways of paying it off....and clinging to past glories."

Must be true then

We'll have Pep then in that case. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Free agent and all.

Not really, the Winters in Turin are bittingly cold.

Golom Moyes next

You'd like that wouldn't you?

Can't see it Paul. No European Experience and no titles on his CV.

The job is too big for him. It's too big for most. It will be Pep, Jose or Blanc for me.

Also......fancy a little side bet? I reckon Fergie will outlast Mancini as City manager.

Write us off, just like everybody else does

Yes I'd like Golom to take over
Can't see Fergie outlasting Mancini, especially if Utd don't win the PL next season

"Van Persie, like every other football lover in the country, will have sat down to watch the Manchester derby on April 30, as City and United tussled for supremacy at the pinnacle of English football."

Then got a dose of reality and realised one season does not a big club make, regardless of how much money they have.

Sustained success dear boy.
