I agree with you Alex that we are in for a tough start to the season. It looks as if the members of the current squad who will be leaving will leave late and Deano will not be able to sign more players until the funds are freed up. Many of his favoured targets will probably have been taken on elsewhere by that time which means that we will be left with players that are some way down his wanted list. After that, the team needs time to gel. I really hope that there is a lot of activity going on behind the scenes and things are under control and not as bad as they seem from the outside but I fear a very poor start to the season. If we can get to mid table though by the season end, I then think we will be challenging at the top end of the table in 2013 / 14. In the meantime though and as you say, Deano and whatever team he is able to put out need our full support.
I do believe that I have been saying this a long time, I must admit I never expected Alex to share my views on this subject but DS is a Clone of SOD. The Board ha, "WE demand success, the people of Doncaster people will do as WE say, they WILL come and spend their last money. NO you cannot have any assets Dean Saunders because WE SAY SO. There now I am happy (For at least one minute)
Bally,
I think I am on the same tablets as you now!
I am confused by what I hear put out by the Board on the one hand and the manager on the other. DS says they need to off-load expensive earners and that he cannot acquire new players until that is done; this operation has begun via the departure of Hayter, Chambers (I think) and Gillett and there are 3 or 4 established players recruited, Blake, Cotterill etc, so they are half way through that. The activity to in relation to those other players who are marketable, principally Friend and possibly O'Connor is bound to accelerate as the season gets closer, so perhaps newcomers who have already been identified and are not already committed to other clubs, can probably be signed up fairly rapidly. But as you say Alex there needs to some bridging finance from the Board if we are not to risk having to kick off with only three quarters of a team.
With only a small core of Championship quality players it is plain that we shall not rival the promotion contenders. As I said some months ago, in the expectation that we would retain more of the 2011/12 squad, it will be an achievement to keep out of the relegation zone between now and Christmas and a mid table finish would be most satisfactory.
The Board seem to want to be more communicative than in the past, but they remain vague about the resources they will put in. They still seem to have a slightly patronising attitude to the customers and underestimate what they really need to actually do to encourage support.
It will be a shame if we really are seeing a repeat of the managerial frustrations which so characterised the SOD era.

I really couldn't care less about the results of friendlies as they mean very little. They are simply a means of preparing the team for competitive football.
Unusually, I can't support you entirely on this one Alex. I don't think asking the board to give Deano the funds solves anything in the long-term. We got into the mess we're in due to DRFCs inability to focus on the long term. They simply continued by begging money from the KM3 until the KM3 said that there was no more.
Austerity is needed and it's going to be painful for us all. The only question that I have is as to whether we can bring in the measures more gradually. This tends to mean you end up paying more in the end, but maybe there is a way.
What I don't want is a continuation of running a club that makes a loss every year. We have to fluctuate around break-even. Simply asking the board to stump-up isn't going to help this.
On Deano, I have very little positive to say about him. I don't buy the "he hasn't had a chance", he came in fully supporting the transfer policy of the club. He couldn't make it work so, so far, he's failed.
That said, I will support him. We're not going to have another manager any time soon so we've just got to hope Deano is able to deliver with the very poor situation in which he finds himself. If we shift some of the senior players, perhaps he can start things moving. Best of luck to him in any case.
Fuzzy,
If we are thrashed by both Wednesday and Hull, and I fear we will, it will have a very bad effect on the gates when we start the season. In other words it will cost the club in lost gate receipts and lose supporters we so desperately need.
Deano will carry the can unfairly as I see it. The board know that at least Friend is going to the highest bidder soon and I feel that they could release some money early so we can get a GK and CB. How much? I don't know but its worth the risk and will it bankrupt the KM3? I doubt it, the equity is in Friends fee and wages.
I don't see it as a high risk strategy just common sense. What is the sense in sending boys out to play who will presumably not be with us next season? What do we learn?
Friendlies, if there is such a thing, are planned to gell a team together, results are not important. Lets see what happens if the results are bad ,very bad!
Deano needs those players ASAP
I have to say two things, 1) you can bet that players are lined up to come in, I don't think the KM3 would be so stupid. We need for one player to leave to start the sell out.
2) I also think we will use the loan system to our advantage this season. Not the Mackay loan system, but the usuals one whereby you can have loanees so long as only five appear in any one game.
Like Fuzzy, I don't count pre season games, how many times have we beaten top teams only to come a cropper in the League?
Alex, I think you are missing a point here. Two of the KM3 walked away from the Rovers last year. I think they did this because they tired of being asked for ever more money by JR. They saw a business that was simply not viable without their ever increasing financial input.
I can almost hear the conversation. "You said 750k last year and we ended up stumping up £1M. Now you've said £750k again for this season. I bet we end up paying out £1.5M!"
To get them back, JR has had to convince them that it will be different this time. Is the way to do that to say "George Friend is as good as sold. We'll get at least £100k for him. Now, the money isn't in the bank yet, but if you could see your way to lend us the £100k, we can get a couple of players in
In time for the next FRIENDLY!"
Transfers have a nasty habit of falling through, particularly because in the end, it's down to the player.
Also think about what you are saying here. We need money from the board to avoid getting hammered in the next couple of friendlies to negate the POSSIBLE effect such a defeat MAY have on gates for the FIRST FEW games of the season.
It's all very short-term.
We've got to concentrate on having the discipline to run a club within budget year-on-year. Otherwise we lose our investors. A little more important than losing a couple of friendlies.
I hope I am wrong but there is losing and there is being thrashed,
by
Wednesday,
Hull,
Barnsley.
The big games where the opposition are not bothered by the result!!!
If that is the case then watch the backlash. The supporters need to see there is hope and light in this very dark tunnel and I don't think they can see it yet.
Seems like I am on my own on this one I only hope the picture is not quite as bad as I paint it.
I'll keep taking the happy pills, Bally
The Tablets stop other people from getting a kicking, they do not stop realisation of being taken for granted, or depression nor do they ever lift gloom. BUT what they do is not allow me to believe in anything that is uttered by Doncaster Rovers Board who appear yet again to be taking the michael where the supporters are concerned. I am going to York match because I have promised my daughter and others from York to get tickets. Where I shall go again to buy tickets for enteretainments is up in the clouds.BUT I am not in the mood for "Smoke screens" which in all honesty are a pack of Fibs
Another season of "Childminding"ahead,then!!!
Oh Yes, no 20 yeras + crybabies on my playing field with these kiddies. More fun as well, not as much money to get them to do what they have been told. No agents to pamper them, on Pampers are snuggle fit ha ha
Its getting a bit tiring all this politics stuff no one knows what's going off behind the scenes etc with regards to players and funds ill be glad when the season starts! By then we'll have a squad and be trying to win football games, bring it on!
I am as guilty as the rest.BUT I have explained all that you have just suggested i.e. The Politics - I was shouted down by many. So what more can I say - It has just been confirmed by The Government "I am Crackers" Mentally unstable. Yep for those who knew it
YOU WERE RIGHT xxxxx
Azza, how i agree with that sentiment.
The club will never let all and sundry know all of what is going on behind the scenes.
Why should they?
Anyone who expects to be given a rundown on what are private business affairs is just expecting too much.
Roll on the football season and lets see where it takes us.
George Friend having a medical at Boro, now
Hound, you out in the sun, it is about time you washed those cars of yours
Are you stalking me?
i wondered who the bloke in a Mac and Sunglasses was.
For your information, one of the cars is clean and shiny and not been out for a couple of weeks.
Let's hope he doesn't get the same diognosis as you ionly !!!!

Friend is the one having a medical Hound.
Yes i know but i was being sarcastic.
You posted after my stalker comment to ionly.
Yep, you got me it was very sunny ande forgot to bring anorak. I was looking at the cars because I heard that you and old man had gone into business selling cars and trailer tents, he is not doing much selling tho
I would like to think the board were listening as it looks like Deano has been allowed to sign two players before George has gone, but I doubt it. I was dreading playing the next three games without experienced players coming in.
The show is now on the road.
Now if the games go badly we can see why and look forward to improvements.
