2m for Rhodes is about right in the current climate...
The Greeks can't afford to turn that offer down!
Apparently we had an offer of £5million turned down…
Two problems with that….
1.) We don’t have £5 million
2.) Why on earth would the player want to join us?
He probably wouldnt get that much game time at fulham any way.
Market value is an odd concept as it does not exist. You can think what a player should be worth but it is largely determined by how much a club wants a player and how much his current club wants to keep him.
As we dont need the money from Rhodes to survive and having him in our team gives us a better chance in the Championship then he will have a much higher valutation to us then any other club will think he is worth. The trouble is the money knock on effect that caused the Andy Carrol transfer sum where it was solely driven by how badly Roman wanted Torres.
When you step below that mad money level then things are more realistic and players tend to only get realistic valuations when coming to the end of a contract and the club wants atleast something back. In the world of more free transfer players I suspect sums paid will stay lower for some time and therefore Rhodes will be going nowhere.
I have to say Novak that the Greeks may accept the Isle of Wight in exchange for Rhodes with performance bonuses dependent on number of drunk Brits turning up!
If someone came in with £6M I reckon Hoyle would talk.
I just don't want him to end up at West Ham. Allardyce would ruin him. Preferably a Premier League team who are unlikely to be relegated anytime soon. Would be awful to see him come back to play against us. And you know he'd score!
If he went we would need 2 strikers!
According to today's Daily Mail...
"SUNDERLAND are considering upping their offer for Steven Fletcher after Wolves knocked back their opening £10m bid."
According to Wikipedia, Fletcher's career record is...
Appearances: 295
Goals: 88
Price is what you pay. Value is what you get... or don't, as the case may be.
The reality is noone is going to offer £6M for Rhodes, not up front and thats the sticking point. If they did they hey may leave but that is a lot of cash upfront for a guy who hasnt scored at Championship level or above yet.
I personally reckon he will stay another season and if its a decent one for him he will go to the PL for a decent amount and to a decent team.
Value is a matter of opinion, some people pay real cash for virtual items in online communities, as they perceive a value to it. History tells of plenty of dusty pictures cluttering up places housing pictures by famous artists as they werent perceived to be any good by those that had them
a lot of sites are saying 4 million plus 2 million in variable add ons..
if that is the real offer and deano has turned it down flat then good for him..
appears the "market value" on jordan is exactly what deano thinks he is worth..
le-ds would have sold him in a heartbeat for some of the add ons and a bag of "magic beans"....
It reinforces the belief that we are following a club that wants progress not to make a few grubby quid and do a runner..
Exactly 38, if you want progress you need to keep your best players wherever possible. Bates would definitely have sold him by now and have a nice new wing to his Monaco mansion. Some clubs like Crewe have built a business model on it and good luck to them but it is a refreshing change to not having to be in that position
The beauty for Town fans is Town don't want/need to sell Rhodes...and like most people asked to name the price for something they don't want to part with, you ask silly money. So long as Rhodes is happy at Town then all is well, if he starts to get restless then word will get round and the price is likely to drop.
According to today's Daily Mail, it looks as though Rhodes is destined for Blackburn. He was given permission to talk to them yesterday and a fee was agreed before last night's match at Crewe. The fee is around £6 million, which Fulham have also agreed to pay but with only £3 million up front.
So, will he go or not? - I reckon he will although Rovers are only in the Championship.
No doubt 38 will say it just paper talk.
You don't really believe that do you Mirf?
They agree a fee before the game and then let him play. Surely Town/Blackburn would have pulled him out of the game for fear of injury.
London Standard today report £4million down payment with another £2million in add ons from Fulham
My comic this morning said Roy Race was leaving Melchester Rovers....
The Guardian & The Yorkshire post are running the same story and there aint no smoke without fire.
Lets face it, if Rovers are offering £6 million quid and Rhodes a salary of £35k/week, then it's a win win situation for everyone.
I suspect that come transfer deadline day Rhodes will be one of those players "spotted at X training ground" or having lunch with the manager and the like. Then the next day will be upon us and he will still be a Town player.
I reckon most stories are fed by his agent or made up as noone can every make them prove it. Its not beyond the wit of man to imagine a situation where an agent drums up fake interest to increase a salary negotiation for their player.
sticking point is dean hoyle..
his valuation of rhodes and his insistence on cash, no deals, no add ons , no promises of money in the future..
A while ago rhodes would have been sold on the premise of the club using funds to rebuild etc etc.. it was a smokescreen for paying the directors/owners their money back..
That no longer is the case at town.. their certainly is a figure that hoyle would accept, he isnt daft... if nobody gets to that figure then dean wont be pushed..
Im of the opinion that 5 million in cash to be used to bring in two players like mcormack/cms/Austin etc would be a deal that dean would seriously look at...
Blackburn are going to spend all their money in double quick time(like kids on holiday) and then if it does not work this season they will be left high, dry and very unhandsome by the owners who dont have a clue about football and how it all works..
Today's Daily Mail says "It looks likely Rhodes will choose Blackburn ahead of Fulham on a deal worth £35,000 per week"
It's also rumoured that he will get £40,000 per week if Rovers get promoted this season and that Town will get a further £2 Million as well.
So, what's the chances of him staying put and me being wrong and all you lot being right?
Very slim I would say.
There will come a time when all this speculation starts to affect Jordan. It must be really unsettling while training and preparing for the season to start with Town knowing the club are willing to sell you at any time the right offer comes in.
I know Jordan is kept in the picture, and is level headed, but this is just going on and on and on, it's ridiculous. It may well be 'paper talk', but it's still out there.
I think the decision in the end will be forced on Town if only for the lads sake. If he starts the season with Town and doesn't score in the first few games everyone will be saying he's been affected by all the speculation and that we should sell him now. Then Town will be scratting around for some striker/s , if there are any left that haven't already found new clubs.
It's a risky strategy by Deano, and as much as I'd like him to stay, I think events are overtaking us and it's time to end the speculation, sell him on and get some replacements in so they can be 'gelled' .
If he goes he goes.
However, we'll need two strikers in if he does. Austin and CMS would soften the blow. Personally I reckon with two strikers of that ilk on board we could make a serious push for a top 6 place.
Could be a very interesting 7 days coming up.
