This is genuinely not about club rivalry but can you honestly look at the explanation for Rio's verdict and say it differs significantly to Suarez? It almost looks like someone is taking the p1ss it's so similar - even down to the "The FA conclude he is not a racist" bit!
I think it has a lot to do with the English FA looking after English players and portraying that we don't do that kind of thing
,doh>
Suarez, a latino, insulted a black man...And we all know how touchy a subject we former imperialists find that subject, but if a black guy insults another black guy...Thats alright, we don't have any guilt...
Basically Rio is one of the FA's golden boys, Suarez is Johnny foreigner.
End of.
Why can't we just insult one another without fear or favour?
It's just banter ffs!!!
Not like we're gonna get 2 years in the gulags
Not sure if they FA can ban someone for off the pitch behaviour?
It's a very fine line but Rio was responding to someone elses moronic, racist statement rather than being the instigator.
In the case of Suarez: he was more the victim of institutional racism than the pertetrator. His principle prosecuting witness was the media.
"Not sure if they FA can ban someone for off the pitch behaviour?"
cantona was...................
Think Reggie is right, they can't ban a player for something that happens off the pitch.
The argument that a foreigner may have got a harsher punishment is debatable, but it wouldn't be a match ban whoever it was.
There was no evidence in the Suarez case...
That is outside of Suarez statement combined with the context provided by the camera's which basically proved Suarez's guilt.
That and they were not exactly the same incident....
From bbc article
........................................
"A number of factors have to be considered in determining the penalty," the statement read.
"This is Mr Ferdinand's first offence. He has a clear disciplinary record. He was the Football Association's 'Poster boy' and role model to other professional footballers in the use of Twitter and has a track record in fronting anti-racism campaigns in football.
"It was in response to a tweet rather than an original tweet."
A representative for Cole released a statement soon after Ferdinand's tweet to emphasis he still viewed the Manchester United defender as a friend.
"Ashley Cole wishes to make it clear that he and Rio Ferdinand are good friends and he has no intention of making any sort of complaint," it read.
"Ashley appreciates that Tweeting is so quick it often results in offhand and stray comments."
........................................
As you can see slightly different scenario's...
Suarez, a latino, insulted a black man...And we all know how touchy a subject we former imperialists find that subject, but if a black guy insults another black guy...Thats alright, we don't have any guilt...
---------------------------------
That's incorrect as Suarez is 1/4 black while Rio is 1/2 black as he has a white mother. Both insulted a black person so what is the difference?

................................
Well Ashley Cole is actually mixed race like Rio Ferdinand.
Also if you look above in what I copy pasted from the BBC you will see that Ferdinand rather than make the actual insult just retweeted it. This along with other things listed make the cases different.
Looking for consistency form the FA? Ha ha, oh this guy.
Arab it doesn't matter about Ashley Cole what about your normal average black person who is offended? I know a few that were not happy with what Rio posted.

Really?
You must now some pretty damn sensitive people. I can assure you however that the person who made that horrible choc ice comment shall not make a single appearance in United colours this season
Basically Rio said something wrong and got punished for it, I am not saying his actions were not wrong. However what was asked for was the differences between this and the Suarez case (or basically why was Suarez punishment worse) and I have provided the explanation for why.
Firstly, It is far easier to say something stupid than it is to type it, read it back and then post it.
A lot of manu fans have revelled in labelling Suarez a racist. I've lost count of the amount of times I have seen the seen the phrase "filthy racist" splattered across ja606. Maybe some will think twice about doing this, after Rio was found guilty of using a racial slur. There is no probability in this case. He did it, it's irrefutable as there is no levels of probability to account for.
The real acid test will be what happens to Terry, as this occurred on the pitch. If he gets anything less than a 8 game ban and a 45k fine, then Liverpool fans will be in uproar, and rightly so.
I have long suspected mixed race Rio Ferdinand has a deep seated hatred for mixed race people, almost as much as Suarez's hates black people

Lets be honest if you use racist language in a heated exchange with someone of another race you may not actually be racist but the charge can easily be levelled...
....................................

...................................
Well as Rio aimed it at someone of his own race it would be hard to try and make the argument he is racist due to it. He also retweeted/approved of the comment rather than make it directly himself.
.................................

Okay so there are some similarities to the Suarez case in that their guilt was pretty much unquestionable...
I think the thing that is causing controversy is the wording of the charge. It states that Rio broke rule E3, or the same rule Suarez broke. That and The FA categorically stating they think Rio isn't racist, like they did with Suarez, is why comparisons are being drawn, and questions about the punishment are being asked.
You must now some pretty damn sensitive people. I can assure you however that the person who made that horrible choc ice comment shall not make a single appearance in United colours this season
---------------------------------
I'm guessing that your not off the same race as them and if so then you possibly cannot comment whether they are sensitive or not.
It is possible to break exactly the same law but in a worse way...
Ill give you an example.
Mr Ferdinand is caught speeding he was going 85 on the motorway (70 speed limit) Mr Ferdinand is given 3 points (on his licence) and a few hundred pound fine. The judge says even though Ferdinand is not a stone cold killer he put other peoples lives at risk.
Mr Suarez is caught speeding going 105 on the motorway. He is given a 1 year driving ban and £1000 fine. The judge says even though Suarez is not a stone cold killer he put other peoples lives at risk.
Same rule broken and same statement made about both but differing punishments are obviously correct as one was more serious than the other. Same with the Suarez case.
I'm guessing that your not off the same race as them and if so then you possibly cannot comment whether they are sensitive or not.
..........................................
You cannot comment on the sensitivity of people you are not the same race as?!
How far does this rule go?
Can I make comments regarding people's of other races footballing ability, looks or intelligence?
Some crazy rule that is... wonder who came up with it...

Yes but then you get into the evidence and 'balance of probabilities' side of it.
For example Mr Ferdinand was caught speeding by a speed camera, which provided evidence of the offence. Mr Suarez received his ban because on the balance of probabilities, in the police's opinion, he was probably doing 105MPH.
If that actually happened, the hypothetical speeding scenario, what would your reaction be?
Firstly you are confusing the level of proof or evidence with the punishment you get for a guilty verdict. It doesn't matter if a guilty verdict is only just about reached by the skin of its teeth or whether it was the most obvious verdict in the history of justice. Once a person's guilt has been decided then punishment is based on the assumption the verdict was right.
Secondly to make your example work Suarez would have to make a statement saying he was only doing 20 higher than the guy next to him and the guy next to him gets clocked at 85.
Regardless punishment is not based on how obvious or not their guilt is, that is decided previous to sentencing.

Probably a can of worms but...
