Great season review so far! Think we are lucky, lucky, lucky to be where we are in the league!
I still can't fathom how the idiots (both owners and management) sold all our experienced players and now this season have signed players who are even older
Rovers summed up I think, mind boggling! Used to it now...
Think you are right, we cant think we have deserved what we have, we haven't and the management need to be telling the players that. We won't get awa with this all season, especially away as you have said, but all in all 7 points in 7 points and it is a good enough start, points wise at least, just need performances to follow now.
Good review oojw, albiet after only 3 games,we cant have this both ways you know,no bad luck for this management, only good luck seems to go against him as well, but that argument aside the real striking thing that i have noticed in all the three games so far is the speed that all three opposing teams play at,to be honest and forgive the pun but headless chickens come to mind,,if all the rest of the Championship teams are playing at that pace i reckon we will have a field day come November,Lciester were visibly dead on there feet at the end of Saturdays game,so looking at the size of our squad and the size of all the other three teams played so far, that over fitness and going hell for leather early doors, will tell at some stage this season, just wondering did you feel the same about how the opposition have come st us?,,along with not being great at taking chances that is my first real notice of the difference from EPL footy..
I think you make two very good points there RB. The pedestrian nature and much slower build of many attacks and also our squad depth and strength going forward.
The slower pace is definately in our favour as we are not blessed with genuine pace in many positions.
All teams have had three months off to recuperate and refresh and will give us a game with their best players fit, available and ready to go for the next 6-8 weeks or so.
Meanwhile wait till injuries, suspensions and loss of form kicks in later in the year and starts affecting their availability and line ups. We will have very good players / replacements to come in whilst they will be turning to the reserves and kids.
Still not enjoying it, surreal atmosphere surrounding proceedings just now, but losing the first three would have been disastrous, so fingers crossed.
This message board is a quiet as the Blackburn End!!
Good to see your reports OOJW. I've refrained from commenting on the actual football as I have not been to a game this season. I made the decision following the Wigan game that I would not stomach this anymore, and will return when either Kean is removed, or venkys sell. Unfortunately, this could take some time...
From what little I have seen of the highlights, we actually look quite clinical. We don't appear to be any better defensively than last year, but the teams so far are far less clinical than in the premiership. This weekend's game will be tough though and if we are still unbeaten after it, i will give Kean some credit.
My main concern is however what the squad will look like after September 1st. If we can still pick from Ollson, Robinson, N'Zonzi, Rochina, Formica we have to have a chance of being in the mix, even with the kit man in charge.
Our experience of the venkys however tells me that they'll want to recoup any outlay on Best and Etuhu. Even then, there's still the Russian transfer window to worry about...
A good read Sirs.
The amazing investment in new (old) players is a big concern for me. If we do well in this league and won promotion we would almost be gaurenteed to come straight back down. It also seems like Kean has bought poorly in the way of fitness. ( Best has always had a dodgy knee).
Danny Murphy could be a good signing, but he seems to enjoy collecting yellow cards.
As mentioned somewhere above away days could be interesting and games against teams like Peterbourgh will throw in some funny results.
Is Shebby mental?
Again guys i ask you, please do NOT get me wrong i would love to see the back of Kean in fact i would dearly love to see the back of the lot of them, but i am trying tyi make the best of a very bad situation,i cant wish for the Rovers to get beat just because of these clowns who are in charge,i really cant but if it cheers you all up there was some mates of mine cursing our good luck on Saturday,as OOJW says it is a sureal happening, for the fans it seems a win ,win,if we win we climb the table if we lose ,we could se the back of Kean, but we must all stick together no fallig out between ourselves if others want to handle the situation differently,Saturday is our first real test of the strenght of this division, lets wait and see what happens there.
RB, no-one on this thread wants to see Rovers get beat.
I don't think this run will continue because Kean isn't good enough. I also don't think that this squad will be as strong come the end of the window.
If I'm proved wrong on both counts I'll be more than happy. I'd be delighted if we're promoted next may, but i can't see it.
Nothing that Kean and venkys have done for us so far has convinced me that they have anything other than contempt for the history of BRFC and its fanbase.
We have to celebrate the 7 points gained to date, although I would personally have taken a bad start if it meant Kean getting the can quickly.
For the good of their peace of mind and confidence as pro-sportsmen the players need to have some wins and good performances behind them after the events of the last two years. It is no fun getting bounced every week.
I think the fans needed some wins as well to balance what has gone before somewhat. At least we now know there is little to fear at this standard and we should not get too many good hidings.
My concern being that nothing has actually changed and the wins take some of the heat off Kean and the situation, whilst things plod on unhappily behind the scenes, with the problems waiting to rear their heads again at an opportune moment.
Let no-one be fooled that the players are happy and united, that the manager has improved, or the defence is more organised, we have replaced the goals of Yakubu, or that the fans are universally happy again.
We remain in turmoil, the season is very long, the problems at our club will surface again soon.
However we have retained a lot of our players, have a very big squad at this level and even if the club mascot was in charge will garner points with the players we have available.
Let no-one forget we now play in the Championship. A few wins here and there are to be expected at this level and do not provide conclusive proof that things have improved or changed., pleasing as they have been.
For those that have not been going to the games, Robbo has been very good and assured, Markus O has done well and looked bright and lively, Etuhu has been commanding in all three games and both Givet and Dann have looked solid for the most. We look a little slow upfront, pass sideways for long stretches of the game and need some creativity in the hole as both Dunn and Edinho looked off the pace and contributed little. Teams are not passing through us centrally as effectively and I woulkd say that the recruitment of Hendry may be paying dividends in terms of defensive organisation, although it is very early days.
The clever recruitment of the referee at weekend also helped, which was a good move by the Keanius....
To clarify re the defence and Hendry....
We have conceeded a number of good chances already, but many have been created from out wide.
It would appear that Dann has new confidence and for this I think we can probably thank Colin Hendry. Murphy and Etuhu centrally seem to work well together and have blocked a number of attacking avenues which has helped.
It is very early days, but the defensive signs are more promising than they have been for a long time.
Poorer quality opposition strikers, creative midfielders, better defending, better organised, more determined, take your pick....as it is way too early to be finite.
OOJW agree with all you say there,,Leeds away this W/end is our first real test of strenght in this division.
I think the results in the cup last night generally indicated that this is one of the worst standards the Championship has been at for some time. That we are 3rd in the league after some atrocious performances says it all. But I agree with you oojw, if the teams we've played against could take their chances, we'd have 1 point.
Personally I think the Championship is poor overall but the teams we've played so far are poor even for this standard. On saturday we play a team thats good for this standard. I really do think reality is about to hit.
