The term "dinosaur" has been used before on these boards but NP does seem to come from a dying breed.
I don't want to kick a man when he is down but I do seriously wonder whether some of the players really want to play under him. Very few respond well to flying tea-cups. We have seen bust-ups with a number of experienced players in the past year but very little putting an arm around the shoulder.
As I have said in many previous posts, I am not a Pearson fan. Having said that, he did take responsibility for last night's debacle and recent performances have suggested real glimmers of hope.
Two things are going to have to change here. Pearson needs to change his style, become less beligerent and adopt a more friendly style with the players and the media alike. But the fans also need to change - support the manager, the team and those individuals who seem to divide opinions.
I suspect that we will go out and beat Blackpool on Saturday but if we do, I would want to hear Pearson on Radio Leicester apologising (again) for Tuesday night and telling us that both players and manager sat down on Wednesday morning for a heart-felt discussion on what they collectively want to achieve this season.
It's a tired cliche but we really all need to be in this together!
I think it's a common myth that he handles everyone with flying teacups. Certainly that's how he treats the media and the rights and wrongs of that can be argued, but much of the anecdotal evidence from within the camp suggests that he's perfectly capable of putting his arm around a player if that's the best way to get performances out of them.
However, you mention Twitter and this is an interesting problem. Nugent has posted tongue-in-cheek things on there in the past (good view from the bench, etc.), although there's also been quite a fuss over nothing about some of his other remarks which have been taken out of context. To an extent that's what happens when nobody can quite tell if you're joking, but I don't think there's a problem there. Danns is another matter. If he's complaining about not getting games and then performing like that then frankly it doesn't matter who the manager is, he needs to grow up. It implies that he thinks he's too good for League 2 opposition when actually he was the worst player on the pitch last night. Whether he needs flying teacups or an arm around him I'm not sure, but he can't expect a place in the first 11 any time soon.
One other thing, do you think Pearson apologised to the fans last night, I don't think he did when listening to his interview - Kasper did the right thing but I think Pearson, although annoyed, didn't say sorry for the shower of you kniow what that played last night!!
He said he 'took responsibility', which I know isn't quite the same thing, but he was clearly angry with certain players.
While a radio apology would be nice, a more effective response would be a win on Saturday.
Pearsons style of management is becoming increasingly worrying. He thinks he can adopt the Fergie style of abrasive and arrogant management , but it is clearly not working for him.
It was clear last night that the players were not up for it, yet he says they were all playing for their places which is why he made so many changes.
I wonder if there is a bigger problem with him dealing with some of our players, and worry that he may have lost the dressing room with his attitude.
It seems to me that everyone around him including radio leics are walking on eggshells and afraid to say the wrong thing in case of a bad reaction.
I really feel for our future at present, and think that unless Pearson can motivate he players then we are in for another wasted season of changes and disappointment.
I too was disappointed that he did not apologise for his players performance last night, trouble is will admit he got things wrong.?
It's a bit pointless comparing him to Fergie, AJ. Fergie works with a-holes but he won't stand for them if he thinks they aren't worth it. And if they are? It's Man Utd, and he's Alex Ferguson. Most of the time the player will calm down and realise that he's throwing away a great thing if he leaves there (ie Rooney). And if that fails, they can just pay him more because they're Man Utd (ie Rooney).
I don't think you can say Pearson has to change unless you know specifics. How do you know what's said behind closed doors? If the players haven't learned Pearson is the boss now then they never will, the thickos shouldn't even joke about that stuff anyway if they've got half a brain, they know the spotlight's on them (though I agree the tweets mainly seem to have been taken out of context).
If Danns doesn't seem to know what the problem is then I'll spell it out for him. It's simple really: You've got to prove you're better than Drinkwater and King. He hasn't done that so far.
By the way, on Saturday evening not one person was saying Pearson couldn't motivate his players, in fact quite the opposite. Despite the loss, everyone that saw the game remarked how much energy and commitment we showed, how the players looked like they believed in what the manager was doing and wanted to play for him. Maybe, just maybe, the manager and players took last night too lightly and it's not a reflection of our true potential?
My biggest worry is we've taken a confidence hit last night, and also some of the fans have turned. I hope I'm wrong.
Disagree with the article. Pearson keeps everything in house and as a result, we are only speculating on his man management.
He doesn't tolerate attempts against his authority. I respect him for this.
He doesn't talk about players in public. I respect him for this.
He doesnt tolerate a player with egos (when there're not good enough - DJ, Mattock), he does when they potentially are (Kasper, Nugent). I respect him for that.
Do you know what I do t respect. I don't respect players like Neil Danns coming out in public even talking about our club no matter about moaning when they turn in a performance like that? Why aren't you in the team Danns - because you are NOT good enough.
Andy King, dropped. Works hard in training and comes back stronger and better. Respect to the man.
I've neverseen us lose a player under Pearson that I e been disappointed about and not 1 single player last night can complain about not being in the first team now.
Nobody can claim Pearson's 2nd tenure at the club has been a failure yet. Nobody could claim that I'd he's sacked this season. If he's still here in 2 years and we've not moved on. Judge him then.
My own view - he's a superb man manager who works with players worth working with. I think he could make a solid Prem manager one day if given the time ad opportunity.
Neil Danns an sod off to league 2 where he belongs.
An angry fox.
By the way, good balanced posts from everyone on this thread and good post from AJB1.
I just needed a rant.
I'm absolutely disgusted that NP didn't make a direct appology to the 8,000 fans who turned up.
Whilst I want stability at the club, the fact is that lose on Saturday and like it or not, he will be on very dodgy ground, whatever his management style is.
Making big changes from league opposition to cup opposition - two leagues lower than you. Thats standard isnt it? (Well it always was for me on football manager ). Seriously, in my eyes the only mistake Pearson did with selection last night was St Ledge and Whitbread in defence together - both coming back from injury and never played togther before. Other than that the majority of players there have been first team regulars at some point over the past few years. I think they just werent interested/up for it.
Viewing it completely dispassionately (despite not being his biggest fan), Pearson seems to be in a no-win situation with City fans. He's damned if he openly criticises his team (i.e. a manager should always be behind his players, a la Wenger), and he's damned if he stands up for his players and apparently makes excuses ("...they tried", "...coming back from injury", "...lack of match practice" etc.).
I get the impression that the bloke finds interviews a chore and that he just wants to be left to get on with the job. From any unbiased perspective he is seemingly very capable at it. Anecdotes suggest that he can have his own 'hairdryer' moments, throwing tea-cups and bawling at players just as much as he can offer a shoulder or provide encouragement to the less confident. We never get to see or hear what happens or what's said in the dressing room, so our own personal opinions and biases will inevitably cloud any judgement.
Maybe he is a moody sod. So what? Of the (League) games we've seen so far, who among us can say that we've not seen any sign of improvement from last season? The (first) team looks like it's gelling, they actually look dangerous and as though they can play (with certain exceptions). NP seems to know who his first team is (cf. Sven). Give him at least a third of a season before making assessments. If we are in the top eight then great, if we are languishing below 14th then it is time to reassess.
Pearson has to be parent, judge, teacher, friend, coach, big-brother, policeman and everything else to his players. Whilst some of them have the strength of character, ability and maturity to see for themselves where they go wrong (Kasper/King?), others (Danns?) are certainly more prone to childish bouts of petulance and to head off in a strop if things don't go according to plan. It is only if NP fails to fulfill his main role (as Boss) and deal with all of this that we should start getting worried. He seems to be staying on top of it.
The only question I'd like to ask him at the minute is "how come Waghorn and Gallagher are still on the books?"
As I've said above, I'm not particularly keen on his style or his manner BUT if the team continues to show improvement in the League then frankly, I couldn't give a monkey's.
Time will tell I guess.
It's just occurred to me: AJB1, you wouldn't happen to be a goalkeeper who attended St Joseph's and St Paul's schools would you? With a fondness for the Beatles maybe?
Just wondering.
No Yankari - I live in Bedford and travel from here each week. Don't mind the Beatles though although although before my time!
Thanks for all the comments - it is refreshing to have a debate on the club without a load of churlish remarks and blame - everyone has a right to their own opinion but at the end of the day we all want the best for our club.
Just for note Emilio I wasn't comparing Pearson with SAF, just making a point it is a problem all managers now have to deal with, and it will probably get worse.
Whatever happens with Pearson let's just hope things improve, I just hope that some of those on the fringe either get their head down and work hard or basically do one!
i would prefer to see big wes morgan come out and apologise for last nights performance. yes pearson put the team out but he gave 8 people out of the current frame a chance to show their worth and failed catastrophically. i know morgan wasnt even on the pitch last night but as club captain i think it should be him that comes out and says sorry for letting down:
the fans
the club
the manager
the management team
the owners

I fail to see how it would make things worse. TBF if I was club captain I'd of been off the bench last night on the touch line yelling WTF!!!!
