Why Javi Garcia, though? I wouldn't have thought that was a position that needed strengthening.

Garcia is exactly what we need, a defensive midfielder who can also play at the back, never seen him play so cannot comment.....also if we have signed Maicon can we not play him against the potatoes please...

Rodwell has played centre half in the past...

Only seen Garcia vs us in the CL but looks a good player. Maicon is a strange one being in poor form with Richards and Zab both good full back4.

Perhaps the plan is to move Micah into cb.

posted on 31/8/12

Might be he's thinking of playing Micah at the right of a back 3 and Maicon at right wing back... much prefer a back 4 though.

With 'nasty' and 'fantastic' to choose from, tabloid editors everywhere must be drooling at the prospect of City signing Nastastic x

If we do get those three players, then I'll be happy with the business we have done, particularly Garcia.

Maicon deal confirmed on Inter's website.

A reported £24m for Javi Garcia.........WOW !!!

Benfica seen you coming me thinks.

I'm happy with Garcia, I don't think it is that price, Stretford, that is higher than his buy out clause, but not too far off. He plays exactly the role we need to fill, particularly with De Jong gone.

We got Kagawa for 12m plus add ons and RVP, one of the best strikers in world football, for a similar amount as Garcia will cost.

Strange from City.

posted on 31/8/12

Err if you consider a minimum of 12m difference to be a 'similar amount' that is.

posted on 31/8/12

I agree with Kagawa, but RVP was in the last year of his contract, you effectively held the power in that negotiation, Garcia is a 25 year old half way through is contract. I would also say there are a lot more very decent attacking midfielders out there than there are defensive ones, which will always up the price.

kagawa was in his last year aswel

The fickleness of a football fan.....

If United were close to paying £24m for Garcia, you lot would be rolling about laughing.

Admit it.....you're all underwhelmed with your signings / potential signings.

First off City are paying at most £22m for Garcia.
Secondly he is a highly thought of DM who can win and play the ball; a fairly rare commodity.
Thirdly I would have been worried if the rags had signed him, because he's just the kind of player you need right now x

posted on 31/8/12

Not at all, don't know enough about the guy to say whether or not 22m is a fair deal for him or not.

£15.5m being quoted for Garcia at the moment.

posted on 31/8/12

Being reported at 18m now, which is what we played with NDJ, and if this lad can pick a pass after putting a tackle in then fair deal in my book. That's a similar price to what you paid for Kagawa, or is it?

posted on 31/8/12

SSN reporting that the initial fee is only £16million. I very much doubt that it would rise to as much as £24m.

I thought he did well against Real. I'd probably turn the sound off though x

"The fickleness of a football fan....."

I was actually thinking of that from the United fans that are commenting on our dealings today, Stretford. He is signing players that have been on our radar for a while that we couldn't buy before we shifted players first. Each signing has been in a position we all knew needed strengthening.

I don't get where the opinions that Garcia is not that good are coming from, all the dedicated European journalists are saying its a very good signing?

posted on 31/8/12

Personally, Cities signings aren't really strengthening their first 11, but what it does is brings in fresh faces, new competition and bulks the squad, all of which are important.

I'm no more fearful of them as I was a day ago, but I think Garcia is a good signing, on par with Barry though imo (who is under rated, solid player).
