1. Clark
2. Senna
3. Schumacher
Lauda & Alonso are both better than Vettel in my opinion but that is all it is, my opinion.
Hamilton is a better driver than Hakkinen, Mansell and Vettel and I speak from 30 years of sitting on my couch watching it on TV. In fact, he is probably in the top 4.
Vettel above Alonso and Hamilton is ridiculous.
Top three:
Senna
Fangio
Schumacher
Personally I dont understand how they can draw comparisons over the decades of the F1 world championship.
Formula One has changed drastically since the days of Fangio and Clark, no doubt they were supreme drivers of their time, but I dont think they would even put up a fight over 1 lap of Monaco, the sport has just changed too much...
I think that comparisons are meaningless and these "pop charts" are just an excuse to fill some space.
Putting Vettel at number 8 has resulted in the BBC article being ridiculed extensively on the forums.
In my opinion, Michael Schumacher is by far the greatest driver and I can only think of the following drivers, that already have not been named, to challenge him for that;
Jim Clark
Alain Prost
Jackie Stewart
John Surtees
Juan Manuel Fangio
Although some of the drivers listed after Vettel were better than Vettel.
Jack Brabham
Niki Lauda
Graham Hill
In no particular order, I reckon the top 7 will be...
Michael Schumacher
Jim Clarke
Jackie Stewart
Ayrton Senna
Alain Prostate
Stirling Moss
Juan Manuel Fangio
Okay so I also presume the remaining 7 are Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Clark, Stewart, Fangio and Moss?
Senna number 1 for me but it's a debate
I meant Prost btw, not Prostate.
I typed that comment on my phone.
